Role Overview

As a Software Engineer Intern on the FC Mobile team, you will dive into the technical foundation that powers the world’s most popular mobile football experience. Over the course of the internship, you will go beyond standard coursework by tackling real-world software engineering challenges focused on performance, logic, and system architecture.

You will take ownership of building a tangible, high-impact project—such as an internal developer tool or a live-ops web feature. This project is designed to test your critical thinking and core computer science fundamentals. You will design data structures, build user interfaces, and optimize rendering performance for mobile environments. This is a deeply hands-on learning role where you will be mentored by senior technical leaders to write clean, resilient, and highly optimized code.

Responsibilities

  • Write, test, and maintain code for internal tools or web views, applying best practices learned from your mentor.
  • Gain hands-on exposure to real-world performance by learning to use browser tools to spot bottlenecks and optimize code for mobile devices.
  • Practice thinking beyond the "happy path" by learning how to write code that safely handles errors, delays, and edge cases.
  • Work in close, daily alignment with your dedicated Senior mentor to break down technical tasks, ask questions, and align on execution.
  • Actively participate in code reviews. Submit your code for feedback and learn how to adapt your work to meet professional team standards.
  • Conclude your internship by presenting your project journey to the engineering team, highlighting the technical challenges you faced and your key learnings.

Qualifications

Core Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related technical field.
  • Solid grasp of core programming logic, data structures, and basic algorithmic thinking learned through your university coursework.
  • Foundational knowledge of web development (HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript).
  • Strong desire to figure out how things work. You enjoy breaking down logical puzzles and aren't afraid to troubleshoot when your code breaks.
  • Comfort in asking questions. You must be willing to communicate daily with your mentor, clearly explaining what you understand and where you are stuck.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior academic or personal project experience using React, Node.js, or TypeScript.
  • An interest in how UI comes to life, including basic CSS transitions or working with HTML Canvas.
  • Basic familiarity (or a strong willingness to learn) browser developer tools (like Chrome DevTools) for debugging.
