Role Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Java Backend Developer to join our Insurance Product Engineering team in Chennai. The ideal candidate will have 24 years of hands-on experience in backend development using Java and related technologies, with strong understanding of product engineering principles, scalable architectures, and high-quality coding practices.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, enhance, and maintain backend services for our industry-leading insurance products.

What will you do?

Design, develop, enhance, and maintain scalable backend modules for insurance domain products.

• Write clean, efficient, and testable code following best practices and coding standards.
• Participate in requirement analysis, technical design, and architecture discussions.
• Develop RESTful APIs, microservices, and integration components.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production and development issues.
• Collaborate closely with QA, Product, and UI teams to deliver high-quality releases.
• Optimize application performance, reliability, and security.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering lifecycle.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure high standards of software quality.
• Stay updated with latest technologies, tools, and industry trends.

What skills required?

Required Experience

• 2-5 years in enterprise software development
• Insurance domain expertise (policy administration, claims, underwriting, or related)
• Strong Oracle PL/SQL - read/analyze existing procedures, triggers, packages
• Java Spring Boot OR Python FastAPI for production REST API development
• Oracle Database - schema design, query optimization, data migration

Core Responsibilities

• Reverse-engineer business logic from Oracle Forms and database procedures
• Design and develop RESTful APIs with proper authentication, authorization, and security
• Implement API governance - rate limiting, metering, versioning, monitoring
• Migrate complex PL/SQL business rules to modern application layer
• Ensure API scalability, performance, and enterprise-grade reliability

Technical Skills

Mandatory:

• REST API design principles and best practices
• API security (OAuth2, JWT, API keys)
• Git (GitHub/Bitbucket) and CI/CD pipelines
• SQL/PLSQL code analysis and optimization

Preferred:

• React.js for frontend development
• AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot)
• LLM integration experience (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini)
• Microservices architecture patterns
• Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
• Exposure to modernization of legacy applications
