A mid-level Java engineer at CEIC (ISI Emerging Markets Group) who builds and maintains data-driven software: translating functional requirements into code, developing data pipelines and microservices, and ensuring quality through testing and automation. Core stack includes Java, MySQL, AWS Aurora, MongoDB, and AWS services.
- Collaborate closely with the Business Analyst to define, refine, develop, test and deliver against functional requirements
- Understands and translates functional into technical requirements
- Develops technical documentation for internal or external consumption for engineers of varying skill level
- Provides technical input to the project delivery plan, including sizing and estimation
- Being accountable for the quality of the scrum team and supporting through code review processes and testing strategies
- Implements correct, performant and reliable code on schedule and according to specification
- Determines code quality and test coverage, and designing and implementing tests to make sure software is built to the highest quality possible
- Develops and maintains test automation efficiency and effectiveness
- Responsible for defect closure and root cause analysis to avoid regressions
- Drives continual improvement in quality and efficiency, including defect prevention/root cause analysis, suggesting and adopting improvements to technology and efficiency
- Collaborates and partners across different departments including Support, Operations, Product and Engineering
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Software Engineering with strong computing background
- Object Oriented programming experience: min 3+ years in Java
- Solid experience in MySQL, AWS Aurora and MongoDB
- Experience in Data Engineering / Data Pipelines / Data processing streaming technologies
- Experience in WildFly
- Experience in VSTO Excel add-in development
- Experience with IDE tools such as Injelij
- Experience in Windows 10 / 11 and Office
- Familiar with Source Control tool GIT
- Familiarity with Amazon Web Services: e.g. Lambda, SQS, S3
- Experience with Micro Services architecture and development
- Continuous Integration software: e.g. Jenkins
- Excellent communicator and ability to work with teams in different regions and time zones
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Understand Cantonese would be added advantage
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar or closely related role is expected to demonstrate competency

- Experience in Python programming
- Search engine: Elastic Search
- R (for Math library)
- Auto update tool: e.g. Wybuild, ClickOnce
- Test automation tool: e.g. TestComplete, JUnit
- Basic Linux operations: e.g. crontab
- AI/LLM Integration: Hands-on experience integrating Generative AI / Large Language Model (LLM) APIs (e.g., OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Anthropic, or Hugging Face) into enterprise applications.
- AI Frameworks: Familiarity with Java or Python AI frameworks.
- AI-Assisted Development: Active experience using AI-driven coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, or Amazon Q) to accelerate development efficiency.
