Software Engineer - Latam or Europe

You will own the reliability, scalability, and evolution of Bitso's mission-critical pay-in and pay-out systems that move billions of dollars worldwide. You will design and deliver event-driven, high-throughput solutions that ensure every pay-in and pay-out is fast, accurate, and resilient. Working closely with product, infrastructure, and compliance stakeholders, you will shape the technical direction of a domain where the bar for quality is exceptionally high. You will architect Kafka-based pipelines, lead architecture discussions, write clean and well-tested Java code, and champion engineering best practices through code reviews. You will embrace AI-assisted development tools as part of your everyday workflow, proactively monitor and resolve production incidents, collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Compliance, and Finance, mentor fellow engineers, and improve observability across services.

Responsibilities

• Own pay-in and pay-out systems by designing, building, and maintaining core financial transaction infrastructure
• Architect event-driven solutions using Kafka-based pipelines that guarantee correctness, ordering, and resilience at scale
• Drive technical decisions and set standards for the pay-in and pay-out domain
• Deliver high-quality, well-tested, high-performance Java code and champion best practices through code reviews
• Embrace AI-assisted development using Cursor, Claude, and CodeRabbit and apply Spec-Driven Development practices
• Ensure system reliability by monitoring, debugging, and resolving production incidents with root-cause analysis
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Compliance, and Finance stakeholders
• Mentor fellow engineers and contribute to internal tech talks
• Improve observability by instrumenting services with metrics, logs, and traces

Requirements

• Experienced in Java backend development with a proven track record of shipping production systems at scale
• Familiar with event-driven architecture patterns such as event sourcing, CQRS, and sagas
• Hands-on experience operating Apache Kafka in high-throughput, real-money environments
• Experience designing and implementing distributed, fault-tolerant microservices handling financial or similarly critical transactional data
• Solid experience with relational databases, PostgreSQL preferred, including schema design, migrations, and query optimization
• Comfortable with cloud-native infrastructure such as AWS or GCP, containerization with Docker and Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
• Able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly in English, written and spoken
• Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and ownership
• Familiar with AI-assisted development flow and tools such as Cursor, Claude, and CodeRabbit
• Familiarity with payment rails, reconciliation, or idempotent transaction processing in financial systems is a plus
