Role Overview

The position involves designing and developing scalable backend services, APIs and data pipelines, implementing new product features, integrating AI models and third-party technologies, and contributing to system architecture, performance, security and reliability. The role is focused on delivering personalised, interactive AI experiences to the company's 20 million users, supported by broader full-stack product development.

Key responsibilities

1. AI/ML Integration & AI Product Engineering

• Integrate advanced AI/ML models (chat, image, and video generation) into consumer-facing products.

• Collaborate with product and AI teams to deliver personalised, interactive AI experiences.

• Design and build the backend services, APIs, and data pipelines that serve AI/ML models in production.

• Experiment with and evaluate new AI technologies (e.g., generative AI models, AI/ML tooling, cloud AI services) to drive product innovation.

2. Product Development & Feature Implementation

• Design, build, and maintain scalable software solutions to support the startup’s core product and user needs.

• Collaborate with product managers and designers to translate requirements into functional, efficient code.

• Rapidly prototype and iterate on features based on user feedback and business priorities.

• Develop and maintain high-quality, scalable software and services using TypeScript.

• Contribute to the full product lifecycle: from discovery and UX research to development, API integration, and release.

3. System Architecture & Scalability

• Develop and optimize backend services, APIs, and databases to ensure performance and reliability.

• Design and implement secure, scalable backend services and APIs.

• Implement best practices for code maintainability, testing, and deployment (CI/CD).

• Troubleshoot and resolve bottlenecks in infrastructure as the company scales.

• Ensure code quality, application security, and performance across core systems.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Support

• Work closely with frontend engineers to integrate UI components with backend logic.

• Assist in debugging and resolving production issues across the stack.

• Research and integrate third-party tools, libraries, or frameworks to accelerate development.

• Prepare technical documentation and support knowledge handover across the engineering team.

Qualification requirements

• A bachelor’s degree or higher qualification.

OR

• At least five years of relevant experience and/or relevant vendor certification may substitute for the formal qualification.

Experience & Other Requirements

• At least 1 year of relevant experience in a similar field.

• Database management & query optimization.

• Cross-functional leadership.

• Engineering mentorship: secure coding, API integration, performance best practices.

Salary and location

The duties will be performed at the company’s Sydney office at Level 6, 77 Pacific Highway, North Sydney NSW 2060. The attractive salary is offered per annum, exclusive of superannuation, with compulsory superannuation contributions paid in addition.
