[Background]
Experimental Systems and Technology Lab (ESTL) of GovTech is an engineering team within the Ministry of Education (MOE). We are made up of engineers, user experience designers and education officers.
Our team designs and develops software products that help MOE transform how it delivers services through digitalisation and innovation.
One of these products is Parents Gateway (PG), MOE’s key digital platform connecting schools and parents across Singapore.
Parents Gateway supports important interactions between schools and families — from receiving school information and providing consent, to managing parent-teacher engagements and other everyday school-parent interactions.
We are now entering the next phase of Parents Gateway.
The team has an opportunity to rethink and rebuild the product for the years ahead, modernising its architecture, improving the experience for schools and parents, and establishing the engineering foundations that will support its future evolution.

[What you will be working on]
Parents Gateway (PG) is MOE’s key digital platform connecting schools and parents across Singapore. The platform consists of a parent-facing mobile application, a web platform for school staff, and the backend services and cloud infrastructure that power them. It supports key school-parent interactions such as announcements, consent forms, parent-teacher engagements and other services, with integrations across the wider MOE ecosystem.
As a Senior/Staff Software Engineer, you will join us at an exciting stage where we are building the next generation of PG largely from the ground up. You will have the opportunity to shape its architecture, engineering foundations and technical practices, while building a platform that operates at national scale.
Your responsibilities include:
- Build the Next Generation of PG: Develop, test and maintain features across the mobile app, web platform and backend services of the new Parents Gateway.
- Feature Delivery: Turn product and design requirements into working software, from breaking down the work and implementing it through testing, release and follow-up.
- Technical Design: Contribute to technical designs for the features you work on. Raise trade-offs and questions early, and learn from design discussions with senior engineers.
- Quality & Testing: Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code. Take part in code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback.
- Production Support: Help monitor, troubleshoot and fix issues in production, and help make the platform more reliable over time.
- Continuous Improvement: Help improve the team's tools, CI/CD pipelines, documentation and engineering practices.
You will also work closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, Education Officers and fellow engineers to turn real problems faced by schools and parents into simple, accessible and reliable experiences.
[What we are looking for]
We are looking for an engineer with solid fundamentals who enjoys learning, cares about the people using what they build, and wants to grow into taking ownership of production systems.
You should have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Professional software engineering experience, or substantial internship or project experience, building real-world applications.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Go, Java or similar.
- Experience building one or more of: mobile apps, web applications, or backend services and APIs.
- A good understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, software design, version control and automated testing.
- Awareness of secure coding practices and of how to build software that is reliable and maintainable.
- The ability to learn new technologies quickly and work across different parts of a system.
- The ability to break down problems and deliver working solutions, asking for guidance when needed.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a cross-functional team.
It is a plus if you have:
- Experience with React Native, React, or Node.js.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP, or to tools such as Docker, Terraform or CI/CD pipelines.
