Software Engineer

What You’ll Do

Flatiron Health, Inc. seeks a Software Engineer at its New York, NY location.

Design and implement RESTful APIs that allow both internal and external consumers to securely access and manipulate data for use across Flatiron’s technology platform which provides real-world clinical data collected from the electronic health records (EHRs) used by cancer care providers. Architect, deploy, and operate distributed services by building reliable and scalable distributed backend systems that can handle high volumes of incoming requests, ensuring efficient scaling and load distribution. Proactively address potential failures—such as network issues or resource limitations—to keep services online and prevent downtime and enhance reliability. Continuously refine service efficiency to minimize infrastructure costs related to compute power and data storage to optimize performance. Develop scripts and workflows to automate processes, reduce manual tasks, minimize operational overhead, and maintain consistent performance. Utilize relational database management systems (e.g., MySQL) to design effective data schemas and manage information critical to the services. Understand networking principles to troubleshoot connectivity issues, ensure smooth inter-service communication, and optimize traffic flow. May telecommute up to 2 days per week.

Who You Are

The position requires the following:

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science or related field
  • Professional or academic knowledge must include:
    • Architect and implement scalable server-side components, services, and RESTful (Representational State Transfer) APIs using modern programming language
    • Utilizing containerization frameworks to create and test service artifacts
    • Implement scripts, command line utilities, and services written in in Python (v3.8) and related tooling
    • Build and implement high availability, fault tolerance, and scalable distributed systems using highly available database storage technologies (including DynamoDB) and key-value stores (including Redis)
    • Leverage deep knowledge of advanced data structures (including binary search, stack, queue, trie, graph) and algorithms (Topological sort, KMP, Raft) to solve scalability challenges in large, distributed systems
    • Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks using debugging, profiling, and automated testing techniques.
  • May telecommute up to 2 days per week.

Job Compensation Range

  • Salary Range: $152,113 to $194,400 per year
  • Preferred primary location: NYC
