Software Engineer - Optical Networks

Summary

Build high-performance optical-network software in Modern C++ for global telecom infrastructure, using AI-enhanced workflows and collaborating with senior architects.

In an increasingly connected world, telecom networks are the backbone of global connectivity—and in the AI-driven data center era, optical networks are more critical than ever.

By joining the Optical Networks division, you’ll be part of an industry-leading team (recently boosted by the acquisition of Infinera) pushing the boundaries of fast, high-capacity network technology worldwide.

We operate in a high-trust, international, and collaborative environment where clean code, continuous learning, and engineering excellence are our North Star. We don't expect you to know everything on day one—we are looking for passionate problem-solvers who are excited to grow their careers alongside top industry experts.

  • Real-World Impact: You’ll contribute to real production code powering global connectivity from day one.

  • Mentorship & Autonomy: Work alongside senior architects in a culture that supports your learning curve, while giving you the space to take ownership of your ideas.

  • AI-Enhanced Workflow: Learn to use modern AI coding assistants and LLM utilities integrated directly into our Development Life Cycle (DLC) to automate boilerplate tasks, generate tests, and focus on high-level logic.

  • Architect & Code: Build high-performance applications for modern hardware architectures using Modern C++.

  • Modernize: Work with STL, Boost, and asynchronous programming to solve real-world system challenges.

  • Quality First: Learn and apply best practices in software robustness through comprehensive unit, E2E, and stress testing.

  • Collaborate & Learn: Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and cross-functional projects within a global, distributed team.

Core Essentials:

  • C++ Fundamentals: A solid grasp of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), basic data structures, and memory management.

  • Growth Mindset: Strong curiosity for modern C++ standards, eagerness to learn, and a passion for technology.

  • Tooling Basics: Familiarity with Git, Linux environments, or scripting languages like Python (academic projects or internships count!).

  • Communication: Fluency in English and eagerness to collaborate across international teams.

  • Education: BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field (recently graduated or final-year students welcome).

Nice-to-Haves (Not mandatory – you’ll learn this with us!):

  • Exposure to embedded systems, multi-threading, or operating systems fundamentals.

  • Basic understanding of Optical Networks, Layer 0, or hardware components (e.g., ROADM, WSS, DWDM).

  • Experience with testing frameworks like GTest.

We offer:

  • A structured onboarding process to help you settle in and learn our tech stack.

  • A hybrid, flexible working environment in Portugal.

  • Exposure to cutting-edge AI and Optical Networking tech.

  • A clear career progression path with continuous learning opportunities.
