Summary

Software Engineer at Orphic Health, an Oxford spin-out building an AI clinical reasoning platform for healthcare. Day to day: extend LLM/RAG-based clinical APIs, act as a forward-deployed engineer on customer integrations across AWS/Azure, harden SOC 2/HIPAA security, and build ETL pipelines and full-stack apps. Remote in the US, Seattle preferred.

About Orphic Health

Orphic Health is an Oxford University spin-out building the evidence-based AI clinical reasoning platform for safe healthcare workflows, combining exclusive access to the most comprehensive corpus of clinical guidelines with world-class AI research.

The team brings deep experience across Oxford AI research, McKinsey, Microsoft, Fortune 200 health tech, and major payer/provider systems, as well as practicing MDs.

The role

We're seeking a Software Engineer to help extend our Clinical Reasoning System (CRS) and own how it reaches customers. CRS is delivered as APIs that power experiences for patients, providers, and payers across partner products and our own apps. You'll be a key part of our US and UK engineering and research team, working directly with founders, clinicians, and major US healthcare organizations. Strong equity and compensation for experienced senior-level engineers.

What you'll do

Depending on your expertise, you can expect to:

  • Use your knowledge of AI, LLMs, RAG, and more to extend and improve CRS
  • Apply AI to how we operate, too: coding agents, automated code review and verification, and agent-driven compliance evidence gathering
  • Work as a forward-deployed engineer across healthcare enterprises: scope and build CRS API integrations, run demos and POCs, support customer deployments through go-live, and bring learnings back to product and research
  • Help run our SOC 2 / HIPAA program and secure our cloud: controls, audit evidence, IAM, encryption, monitoring, and incident response
  • Deploy, operate, and harden the Orphic stack across SaaS and dedicated customer clouds (AWS, Azure), with attention to scale, cost, and latency
  • Work with ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest, normalize, and quality-check clinical data from guidelines, literature, and more
  • Build across the stack: web UI, mobile apps, services, and infrastructure-as-code

Who you are

  • You have a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • You have 5+ years building production systems
  • You've shipped agent-, LLM- or RAG-based products to real users
  • You're hands-on with AWS or Azure, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code
  • You've worked in a startup or on 0 → 1 projects, and you take ownership when things are ambiguous
  • You're comfortable working directly with customers, both technical and clinical
  • You're AI-native: you use coding agents and AI tools daily to move faster and more reliably

Nice to have

  • Security & compliance: SOC 2 / HIPAA controls, cloud security hardening, incident response
  • Experience in healthcare technology or another regulated industry
  • Familiarity with healthcare workflows, clinical terminology, and interoperability standards such as FHIR
  • Python services and APIs
  • Web front-end (React/TypeScript)
  • Data engineering: pipeline architecture, ETL/ELT, data validation and quality monitoring

What we offer

  • Strong compensation and equity.
  • Remote in the US, Seattle preferred. Expect early starts for overlap with our UK team.
  • You must be authorized to work in the US without current or future visa sponsorship.
