Software Engineer Python SQL Market Data

Summary

Build and maintain Python-based backend systems handling financial/market data with SQL, NoSQL, and distributed architectures.

Salary: £40,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:
  • We need strong backend development experience with Python.
  • We need experience working with financial or market data.
  • We need experience designing and operating data-intensive and distributed systems.
  • We need strong knowledge of databases, including relational, NoSQL and columnar databases.
  • We need someone keen to take ownership and work across the full development lifecycle.
  • We need a collaborative and pragmatic person with strong stakeholder management skills.
  • We expect a 2.1 or above in a STEM discipline, likely including MSc-level study.
Responsibilities:
  • We design and build data platform components using Python.
  • We develop and optimise ETL pipelines, data lakes, lakehouses and distributed systems.
  • We improve infrastructure, observability and CI/CD practices.
  • We maintain and evolve existing systems, including microservices, ETL and Excel add-ins.
  • We support platform operations, ensuring reliability and performance.

We are a hedge fund with a growing team building a modern medallion architecture data platform. This is a hands-on role with real ownership and impact, working across data engineering, distributed systems, infrastructure and frontend in a small, collaborative environment. The role is based full time in our impressive Central London office, Monday to Friday.
