Job Description

This role is for a software developer to serve on a Simulation Engineering team at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Johnson Space Center (JSC). The position supports the development and maintenance of the Training Systems (TS) applications supporting the Communication and Tracking Network System (CTNS) within the facility.

Description of Duties

This position provides software engineering leadership and support to the Training Systems (TS) Facility at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Johnson Space Center (JSC) located in Houston, Texas. The software engineering lead will be responsible for leading the software development and maintenance of the real-time Communication and Tracking Network System (CTNS) systems in the TS facility. This position includes Agile software methodology using engineering and computer programming skills primarily in C++. The applicant will be responsible for providing technical support in the analysis and specialized knowledge in the resolution of software-related problems. The applicant will also be responsible for leading and supporting critical software systems in the CTNS simulation software. This will include but limited to applying expert engineering knowledge in system analysis, research, design, test, and integration to resolve complex issues. The applicant will work with the users to determine requirements, system limitations, impacts and flight-training readiness associated with Communication and Tracking simulations to ensure compatibility and effectiveness of the simulation applications. The applicant must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Strong initiative, teamwork and problem-solving skills are required, and the applicant will lead a team of engineers. Potential candidate identified.

Successful candidates will:

• Lead, develop, maintain, troubleshoot simulation software supporting the NASA JSC Training Systems.
• Lead and support the development and maintenance of the Communication and Tracking Network System (CTNS) systems.
• Lead and support the design, development, and integration of the CTNS systems and associated software interfaces.
• Lead, develop, and maintain software using computer programming and experience in C++ in a Linux or UNIX environment.
• Provide training to build very effective and productive teams.
• Accept responsibility on all assigned tasks and develop work plans and schedules.
• Provide technical advice for CTNS design and engineering principles.
• Perform software builds and integrate software with other developers.
• Support software testing and verification activities with external partners.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum development activities, including Sprint planning and reviews.
• Lead and work effectively with developers, system engineers, test personnel, technical leads, and other project stakeholders.
• Participate in code reviews and follow established software development processes and procedures.
• Document software changes, technical issues, test results, and procedures.
• Assist with the integration between training, simulation, and external vendors.
• Possess good oral and written communication skills and work effectively and coordinate actions with both internal and external customers.

Job Requirements

Must have the following education and experience: B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related degree, plus 15 years related experience;

Must be able to obtain a NASA Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Badge for NASA credentials

Desired Requirements

• Prior experience with the Mission Training Center and Training Systems is a plus.
• Experience in Python programming and GitLab Configuration Management systems.
• Familiarity with the NASA JSC Trick simulation framework.
• Experience with Agile development methods and Amergint provides a significant advantage.
