We're partnering with a leading global technology organisation to find an experienced Software Engineer to join a team responsible for a critical cloud provisioning platform.
The platform manages the lifecycle of customer environments, from activation and updates through to suspension and deletion. The team is focused on improving service reliability, reducing manual operational support and building automation and tooling to make the platform more efficient and resilient.
This is a hands-on engineering opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, investigating production failures and turning recurring issues into long-term engineering solutions.
The Role
You'll combine backend development with production troubleshooting and continuous improvement, taking ownership of issues from initial investigation through to resolution. Alongside supporting day-to-day operations, you'll identify patterns across recurring failures and lead initiatives to improve tooling, automation and service reliability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Investigating and troubleshooting provisioning failures across backend services and AWS-based distributed workflows.
- Performing root-cause analysis using application logs, metrics, dashboards and service behaviour to identify recurring issues and potential risks.
- Developing and maintaining Java and Spring Boot microservices and REST APIs.
- Working with AWS Step Functions and messaging services, including SQS and SNS, to investigate and safely recover failed workflows.
- Identifying opportunities to reduce manual intervention through automation, improved tooling and more efficient recovery processes.
- Taking ownership of technical issues, developing longer-term solutions and driving improvements through to implementation.
- Supporting internal requests relating to customer environment provisioning, lifecycle management and deletion.
- Contributing to metrics reporting, backlog management, runbooks, documentation and engineering best practices.
- Collaborating with engineers across the team to improve operational processes, share knowledge and strengthen platform reliability.
About You
- 5–7 years of software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot and REST APIs.
- Practical AWS experience, particularly with Step Functions, alongside exposure to SQS and SNS.
- Experience supporting production services, investigating incidents and troubleshooting distributed systems.
- Strong analytical and debugging skills, with the ability to identify root causes and recognise patterns across recurring failures.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to take ownership and drive solutions rather than simply resolve symptoms.
- Experience building tools, scripts or automation to improve operational efficiency and reduce repetitive manual work.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to document technical findings, explain impacts and share knowledge with others.
Experience with SQL databases, Gradle, OpenAPI, contract testing and monitoring tools such as Splunk, SignalFx or similar would be beneficial.
Why Join?
- Work on a business-critical cloud platform with a direct impact on customer experience and service reliability.
- Tackle complex engineering challenges across distributed systems and AWS workflows.
