Summary
Senior Software Engineer building and supporting cloud-native distributed applications with Java and Python, working across microservices, containers (Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible) in a hybrid Glasgow role.
Work Model: Glasgow / Hybrid as required

Rate - 395 - 450 GBP/ Day
About the Role
Are you an experienced Software Engineer with strong Java + Python skills and hands‑on experience building and supporting distributed applications?
We’re looking for a Senior Java/Python Developer to join a technically challenging environment focused on cloud-native applications, microservices, containers and modern DevOps practices.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop and maintain applications using Java and Python
- Design and work with REST APIs and microservices
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across distributed systems
- Work with Docker, Podman and Kubernetes
- Support applications running on Virtual Machine (VM) environments
- Work with PostgreSQL and other relational databases
- Apply networking and security fundamentals to application and infrastructure solutions
- Build and maintain infrastructure using Terraform
- Automate and manage environments using Ansible
- Work with GitOps and CI/CD practices
- Collaborate with engineering, DevOps and infrastructure teams
- Investigate complex technical issues and support production environments
What We’re Looking For
- 7-8+ years of software engineering/development experience
- Experience with distributed systems and microservices
- Strong experience with REST APIs
- Hands‑on experience with Docker and/or Podman
- Experience with Kubernetes
- Experience working with Linux/Unix and VM environments
- Good understanding of networking and security fundamentals
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
- Experience with Terraform and/or Infrastructure as Code
- Experience with Ansible
- Understanding or hands‑on experience with GitOps
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging and problem‑solving skills
