Our client is the AI and software division of an established, award-winning accounting group that specialises in construction and trades. Launched in response to client demand, it builds ready-made and custom software and automates processes across the wider group.

About the Role
With a busy and growing pipeline, our client is looking for its first Engineering Lead. Based in Indooroopilly and reporting to the AI Division Lead, you’ll lead a team of four engineers based in Sri Lanka and own the quality and timely delivery of client projects and internal initiatives.

This is a purely technical leadership role, with no business development. Around half your week will be spent developing software and reviewing code, and the rest leading the team and building the systems a growing engineering function needs. As the team grows beyond six engineers, your focus will shift further towards leadership.

In this role, you will:

• Build practical engineering processes, workflows and delivery systems from the ground up

• Lead daily engineering operations, including priorities, stand-ups, workload and career development

• Review code, oversee releases, and manage production issues for live client systems

• Guide architecture and technical design, and translate client needs into clear requirements

• Champion agentic coding and AI-driven development across the team

The Technology You’ll Work With
Microsoft Azure, Node.js, TypeScript, React and PostgreSQL, with integrations into Xero, Buildxact, Procore and other industry platforms, plus LLMs, MCP servers and agent-based workflows.

The Experience You’ll Bring

• Experience developing and delivering production software

• Experience leading or mentoring engineers

• A strong commitment to agentic coding, using AI coding agents as a core part of how you build software

• Experience managing offshore or distributed engineering teams

• Clear communication of technical decisions and trade-offs to clients and stakeholders

Experience with SaaS or custom software across multiple clients, third-party API integrations, secure multi-tenant systems, production LLM applications, or construction, trades or accounting software would be highly regarded.
