Software Engineering Manager - Manchester
Summary
Engineering manager role leading and mentoring Agile software teams that build scalable, cloud-native backend services. Day to day involves technical direction across Go microservices, APIs and AWS, driving CI/CD and DevOps best practices, and supporting hiring and team growth in a hybrid Manchester setting.
Salary: £80,000 - 110,000 per year
Requirements:- Strong commercial experience with Golang or similar backend technologies.
- Previous experience in a leadership, team lead or engineering management role.
- Strong understanding of microservices and distributed architectures.
- Experience working with AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing practices.
- Experience working with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and technical decision-making ability.
- Experience working in Agile environments.
- Desirable: experience with serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda.
- Desirable: experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Desirable: experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems.
- Desirable: background in fintech or regulated environments.
- Desirable: experience scaling engineering teams in high-growth organisations.
- Lead and mentor a team of Software Engineers.
- Oversee the design, development and delivery of scalable backend services.
- Provide technical direction across microservices, APIs and cloud-native systems.
- Contribute to architecture decisions and engineering standards.
- Promote best practices in CI/CD, testing and DevOps culture.
- Support hiring, onboarding and professional development of engineers.
- Work closely with Product Managers to define and deliver roadmaps.
- Ensure code quality, scalability, security and performance standards are met.
