We are seeking a Software Engineer to support the development, integration, deployment, and sustainment of critical software systems supporting Department of Defense (DoD) customers. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who is equally comfortable developing software, deploying solutions, troubleshooting distributed systems, and supporting fielded platforms. You will not just write code, this role is responsible for network configuration for VLAN configuration on edge-node devices, ensuring the software developed integrates into the hardware components, and assisting with the Interim Authority To Operate accreditation process for the system to backhaul data to an approved DoN Network. You should be comfortable validating communication protocols, developing containerized applications, and understand basic security principals such as authenticated transport, and signed data.
Responsibilities:
- • Design, develop, test, and maintain mission software applications and services
- Develop automation scripts and deployment tooling using Go, Bash, and Python
- Support Linux systems, systemd services, and secure remote administration using SSH
- Build and deploy containerized applications using Podman and Quadlets
- Configure and troubleshoot Ethernet networking, VLANs, TLS, and system communications, including tagged and untagged traffic, trunk ports, and network segmentation concepts
- Execute provisioning, bootstrap, and deployment procedures for operational systems
- Support hardware integration including serial, USB, I2C, and SPI interfaces
- Interface software systems with embedded and peripheral hardware components
- Utilize serial console connections for diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Support software integration with hardware interfaces including USB, I2C, SPI, and Ethernet-connected devices
- Assist in identifying and isolating software, hardware, power, and network-related issues
- Ensure software services remain resilient to hardware attachment and detachment events
- Support Authority to Operate (ATO), RMF, and cybersecurity compliance activities as required
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of software engineering or systems integration experience
- Experience with Linux, Bash, Git, Go, Python, and container technologies. Comfortable daily driver on Linux (Debian/Ubuntu-class systems on Pi and sim VMs)
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals including wired ethernet, TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, and routing
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting Ethernet-based networks, including IP addressing, subnetting, routing, and DNS
- Experience supporting software deployed on Linux-based embedded or edge-computing platforms
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Secret clearance
- Experience supporting DoD, Navy, Marine Corps, or Intelligence Community programs
- Experience with ARM-based platforms, embedded Linux, and edge computing environments
- Experience integrating software with sensors, radios, autonomous systems, unmanned systems, or edge-computing devices
- Familiarity with RMF, Zero Trust, and secure software development practices
Salary: 120k+ to align with experience and education
Location: Charleston, SC
Schedule: 5 days onsite in Charleston
