Software Quality Assurance Technician

Discussion

Summary

A QA technician who tests software, investigates defects, monitors system performance, and manages support requests for real-time environmental data infrastructure running on AWS — the data behind Australia's climate and ocean research. Varied, hands-on work across cloud platforms rather than repetitive product testing.

Software Quality Assurance Technician
Help protect the data Australia relies on to understand its oceans - and fight climate change while you do it.
Most QA roles protect a product. This one protects something bigger.

Every test you run, every defect you catch, every system you keep humming, it all feeds into the data behind Australia's climate research, marine ecosystem monitoring, harmful algae detection, and environmental decision-making. Scientists, government agencies, CSIRO and the global research community all depend on that data arriving accurately, reliably, and on time. You're the reason it does.

This is the kind of work you'll actually want to talk about at a dinner party. Work you'll be proud your kids know you do. Work that lets you sleep well, because you're not just shipping features, you're helping protect oceans that are under real, measurable threat.

What you'll do
Test software, investigate issues, monitor system performance, manage support requests, and work closely with developers to catch defects before they ever reach a user. No repetitive product testing, no being boxed into one system - you'll work across cloud platforms and real-time environmental data infrastructure that's genuinely nationally significant, where priorities shift and every week looks different.

Why this role

  • Your work directly contributes to climate and ocean science - not adjacent to it, part of it
  • A skilled, collaborative team that values ideas and initiative over hierarchy
  • Real problems with real-world environmental impact, not synthetic test cases
  • Variety, challenge and continuous learning, built in
  • An organisation entering an exciting growth phase - get in while it's still forming
You'll need experience in AWS cloud infrastructure, real-time environmental data systems, large-scale national data platforms, and agile delivery. It's a genuinely unique technical environment for the Hobart market, built by a team from diverse backgrounds who value collaboration above ego. If you'd rather work across meaningful challenges than guard a narrow patch, you'll fit right in.

If you want QA work that matters beyond the software itself, where the payoff isn't just a clean release, but cleaner oceans, we'd love to hear from you.

And if your CV isn't polished, don't let that stop you. Send what you've got and we'll work through it together. Everyone gets a response.
