Job Summary

Ready to put your electrical design and engineering expertise to work on projects with impact? As a Solar Design Manager at Resonant Energy, you'll produce the technical designs that move solar projects from concept through construction across rooftop, ground-mounted, and canopy installations for non-profits and affordable housing developers.

What You'll Do: You'll own the end-to-end design process for your project portfolio, from site surveys through full construction drawing sets. Using AutoCAD, Scanifly, and Aurora, you'll develop PV layouts, single-line diagrams, and system specifications while ensuring compliance with NEC, building code, and fire code. You'll coordinate with third-party engineers, support utility interconnection, and provide technical guidance to Project Managers. On new construction projects, you'll work directly with architects and building engineers to integrate solar into building plans from the start.

What Makes This Role Exciting: Every design you produce directly enables a clean energy project serving communities that need it most. You'll work across a technically diverse project mix including new construction, canopy systems, and battery storage, building expertise across project types as Resonant grows its portfolio and expands into new markets.

You'll Thrive If You:

  • Take satisfaction in producing technically precise, code-compliant work
  • Are energized by design challenges that require creative problem-solving
  • Want to keep building expertise across emerging solar technologies and project types
  • Want meaningful work delivering clean energy to under-invested communities

Your Responsibilities

Solar System Design and Engineering

  • Assess potential solar project sites to determine feasibility and design requirements; use site audit and design platform and tools (e.g., Scanifly drone system) to capture site images and gather data
  • Use AutoCAD to draft comprehensive solar PV system engineering plan-sets, including photovoltaic layouts, single line diagrams (SLDs), and system specifications
  • Determine specifications for panels, optimizers, inverters, racking, attachments, and balance of system components
  • Collect accessible building structural information
  • Utilize solar design and shading analysis software (e.g., Scanifly) to optimize system performance
  • Coordinate with third party engineers and manufacturers for final design deliverables
  • Ensure that all projects comply with applicable and upcoming AHJ codes, standards, and regulations
  • Review post construction documents to ensure project was built within company and industry standards

Engineering and Pre-Construction Coordination

  • Support Project Managers’ coordination with project stakeholders and create a path for building future solar installation
  • Incorporate feedback from clients’ architects and building engineers to ensure designs meet clients’ requirements
  • Work on projects from preliminary layouts to full intended-for-construction plan-sets

Technical Support

  • Provide technical support during the installation phase to ensure adherence to design specifications
  • Update and maintain project documentation within the company's database, ensuring accuracy and accessibility of design records
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline design processes and workflow
  • Monitor industry trends and updates in solar technology to continually improve design practices
  • Support financial analysis of projects by providing design-related inputs and cost estimates

Interconnection and Regulatory Compliance Support

  • Coordinate with stakeholders to collect necessary site data, technical information, and to ensure design compliance with local codes and regulations
  • Ensure design meets all construction standards, National Electrical code, Building code, Fire code, and other safety standards
  • Engage with key AHJs, including utility companies, building inspectors, and wiring inspectors, to understand interconnection and construction requirements and process interconnection agreements and building and electric permits
