Soldering Operator

Job Title: Soldering Operator / Manufacturing Soldering Technician

Department: Manufacturing / Production

Reports To: Production Supervisor

FLSA Status: NonExempt

Shift: 1st

Job Summary

The Soldering Operator is responsible for performing manual and/or automated soldering operations on components, assemblies, or products in accordance with work instructions, quality standards, and safety requirements. This role supports production goals by ensuring highquality workmanship, process compliance, and efficient throughput.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform hand soldering and/or machine soldering (throughhole, surface mount, wiretoterminal, or assembly soldering as applicable)

  • Read and follow work instructions, schematics, blueprints, and process documentation

  • Inspect solder joints for quality, defects, and conformance to specifications

  • Use soldering tools such as soldering irons, reflow ovens, wave solder machines, and related equipment

  • Identify and report defects, process deviations, or equipment issues

  • Rework or repair assemblies as required per documented procedures

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area (5S standards)

  • Follow all safety, quality, and ESD (electrostatic discharge) requirements

  • Meet productivity, quality, and attendance expectations

  • Participate in continuous improvement and training initiatives

  • Comply with all company policies and manufacturing procedures

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with attention to detail

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

  • Basic math and measurement skills

  • Manual dexterity and good handeye coordination

  • Ability to stand, sit, or work at a bench for extended periods

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous soldering experience in a manufacturing or electronics environment

  • Knowledge of IPC standards (IPCA610, JSTD001) preferred

  • Experience with surface mount (SMT) or throughhole soldering

  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment

  • Ability to read basic electrical schematics or assembly drawings

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to [50] lbs occasionally

  • Ability to perform fine motor tasks

  • Ability to visually inspect small components and solder joints

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, or fumes (PPE provided)

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing/production floor

  • May involve exposure to soldering fumes, chemicals, or hot surfaces

  • PPE required as applicable
