Solicitor - Banking & Finance - Regulatory - Melbourne
About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Solicitor to join our market-leading Banking & Finance team in Melbourne, working closely with newly promoted Partner Kathryn Tomasic, as well as Partners Anne-Marie Neagle and Ian Paterson. In working closely with Kathryn, you will have the opportunity to advise on a range of financial sector regulatory issues. Our clients range from major financial and government institutions, investment banks, financial advisors and regulators to industry groups, financiers and corporations. You'll be trusted with meaningful client exposure, sophisticated advisory work and hands-on support to continue developing your technical skills.
Your work will include:
· Advising banks, insurers, wealth managers, payments providers and other financial institutions on financial services regulatory and prudential matters
· Supporting clients on major regulatory reform projects, including the implementation of new laws, regulatory obligations and industry frameworks
· Advising on licensing, conduct and disclosure obligations, including AFS licensing, consumer credit and Chapter 7 requirements
· Assisting clients with governance, risk management, compliance and accountability frameworks
· Working with clients on engagement with ASIC, APRA and other regulators, including regulatory investigations, reviews and compliance matters
· Monitoring and advising on emerging legal and regulatory developments impacting the financial services sector
You will have:
· Approximately 2-4 years' PQE with experience in financial services regulation, banking & finance, or a related regulatory law practice
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent drafting, legal analysis and problem-solving abilities
· The ability to quickly understand and navigate complex legal and commercial issues
· An interest in working with leading financial institutions on significant regulatory and compliance matters
· A positive, adaptable and self-aware approach, with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving legal environment
· A willingness to embrace new technologies, including AI-enabled legal tools, as part of your ongoing professional development
