About the CompanyOur client is a global SaaS business providing a cloud native banking platform to banks and financial institutions worldwide. Backed by significant scale and a flat, fast moving culture, they are now growing across Australia and New Zealand from a Sydney CBD base.
About the Role
Sitting between clients and engineering, the Solution Architect leads technical design through implementation and supports the sales phase. You will work with client stakeholders, SI partners and an Australian engineering team of 20 to 25, translating business requirements into technical direction. Travel across Australia and New Zealand is required.
Duties / Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical design through the implementation phase, working alongside client engineering leads and SI partners on estates that range from greenfield builds to systems 30 and 40 years old
- Sit in the room with client engineers on the technical detail, using API specifications, sequence diagrams and documentation, then carry that back to the internal engineering team
- Move between audiences in the same day, explaining to senior business stakeholders what can and cannot be done, why, and what the workable alternative looks like
- Support the sales phase with the Business Development team, uncovering client requirements and shaping what a solution looks like
- Document scope and roadmap decisions, and feed client requirements back into the product roadmap with Product Owners and engineering
- A consulting background is essential. Senior manager level in a consultancy, or equivalent client facing delivery experience within a SaaS business
- End to end solution architecture across the software delivery lifecycle, with enough technical depth to engage engineers at a low level on API specifications, webhooks, data and cloud
- Software service design and integration experience, including RESTful APIs, OpenAPI specification and sequence diagrams
- Cloud infrastructure and large scale cloud applications
- Proven ability to shift communication style between detailed technical conversation with engineers and business language with senior stakeholders, and to build those senior relationships
- Comfortable taking the whiteboard in a room of people you have not met and giving direction
- This is not a hands on coding role, and it is not an enterprise architecture role. It sits between the two, close enough to the detail to be credible with engineers without owning the keyboard
- Nice to have: retail, business or core banking, card processing or payments experience, delivery of core banking or large scale digital transformation programmes, commercial acumen and business case experience, and knowledge of financial regulations
- Comfortable travelling nationally and internationally
