This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Solution Architect, AMI & Utility Technology based in the United States.

As a Solution Architect, you will provide senior technical leadership across complex Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and utility technology initiatives. You will work closely with utility business, IT, and operational technology teams to shape current- and future-state architectures. The role spans solution design, systems integration, testing, data management, and technical implementation oversight. You will translate business and technical requirements into scalable, practical solutions while identifying dependencies, risks, and integration needs. You will also guide technical consultants, vendors, and project teams throughout the implementation lifecycle. This is a highly collaborative environment where your expertise can directly influence how utilities modernize their technology and prepare for the evolving energy landscape.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead the development of current-state and future-state solution architectures for AMI and related utility technology initiatives.
  • Develop system context diagrams, component diagrams, logical and physical architectures, integration models, data flows, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Translate business processes, functional and data requirements, automation objectives, and implementation constraints into practical technical solutions.
  • Define integration requirements across AMI, Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS), CIS, GIS, work management, asset management, outage management, customer platforms, analytics, and other enterprise systems.
  • Facilitate architecture, configuration, integration, and design workshops with utility stakeholders, technology vendors, system integrators, and project teams.
  • Evaluate vendor solution designs and technical approaches for alignment with requirements, scalability, interoperability, reference architectures, and long-term supportability.
  • Provide technical oversight throughout solution design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and transition to operations.
  • Lead testing and data management activities, including test strategy and planning, requirements traceability, defect management, data validation, reconciliation, and issue resolution.
  • Direct and mentor technical consultants supporting testing, data management, and other technical workstreams while contributing hands-on when required.
  • Connect business and technical requirements to solution designs, vendor deliverables, test cases, and acceptance criteria to maintain strong requirements traceability.
  • Perform hands-on technical activities when needed, including test-case development, root-cause analysis, data validation, exception analysis, and implementation support.
  • Identify technical risks, dependencies, gaps, data issues, and design challenges, and collaborate with clients, vendors, and project teams to develop effective resolutions.
  • Contribute to technology roadmaps, implementation strategies, technical deliverables, client recommendations, proposals, and solution-architecture methodologies and tools.
  • Requirements:

    • 5+ years of experience in utility solution architecture, systems engineering, systems integration, or a closely related technical discipline.
    • Demonstrated experience designing or supporting complex technology solutions for electric, gas, or water utilities, with AMI implementation experience strongly preferred.
    • Strong understanding of utility enterprise and operational systems, including AMI, MDMS, CIS, GIS, work management, asset management, outage management, customer platforms, and analytics.
    • Proven ability to develop solution architectures, system context diagrams, integration models, interface designs, data flows, and technology roadmaps.
    • Strong knowledge of systems integration concepts, APIs, interfaces, data exchanges, integration patterns, and enterprise architecture principles.
    • Hands-on experience with utility technology testing and data management, including test planning, requirements traceability, defect management, data validation, and reconciliation.
    • Experience translating business processes and functional requirements into technical architectures, integration requirements, and implementable solutions.
    • Experience evaluating vendor technical designs, identifying risks and gaps, and communicating recommendations to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
    • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to work effectively with utility IT and OT organizations, vendors, system integrators, and consulting teams.
    • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities across concurrent client engagements.
    • Comfortable providing senior-level technical direction while remaining hands-on and detail-oriented when project requirements demand it.
    • Experience working across multiple AMI implementation phases and with electric, gas, and water utilities is highly valued.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
    • Ability to travel to client sites as required, potentially up to 50%.
    • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States or Canada; employment visa sponsorship is not currently available.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive salary of $160,000–$200,000 USD, plus an annual bonus.
      • Compensation adjusted based on relevant experience.
      • Remote work when not traveling to client sites.
      • Travel requirements based on project and client needs, up to 50%.
      • Medical, dental, and vision insurance options.
      • Company-paid life insurance.
      • Company-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance.
      • Medical and dependent-care flexible spending accounts.
      • Paid parental leave.
      • Flexible Time Off (FTO) policy, with paid time away approved according to business needs and workload requirements.
      • 401(k) plan with a 3% employer match.
      • Opportunity to work on meaningful technology initiatives shaping the future of the utility and energy sectors.
      • Collaborative environment focused on knowledge sharing, professional growth, clarity, and substantive technical work.
