Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand plays a vital role in understanding, developing, and caring for Aotearoa New Zealand's whenua, moana and arawai. Our digital and data capabilities are critical to delivering trusted services, enabling good decision making, and supporting sustainable outcomes for New Zealanders.
We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to lead the architecture, design, and evolution of our low-code, automation, and AI ecosystem. This role is a key technical leadership position within Digital Delivery, providing architectural oversight across Appian Cloud, Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and emerging AI capabilities.
Working within a mature agile environment, you will partner closely with delivery squads, product owners, architects, and business stakeholders to design secure, scalable, and sustainable digital solutions that deliver value for New Zealanders. You will act as a trusted advisor, helping shape technology decisions, establish platform standards, and develop the architectural foundations needed to support LINZ's growing investment in automation and artificial intelligence.
While experience with Appian is highly desirable, we are equally interested in architects with strong enterprise solution design experience who are motivated to quickly develop expertise across our technology platforms.
Key responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end solution architecture across Appian Cloud, Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and AI-enabled solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture principles and business objectives.
- Design scalable workflows, integrations, and data solutions that connect modern platforms with enterprise systems and government services.
- Provide architectural leadership across agile delivery teams, balancing customer outcomes, security, privacy, performance, and long-term sustainability.
- Establish architecture standards, governance practices, design guardrails, and development patterns across low-code and automation platforms.
- Lead design assurance activities, architecture reviews, and risk assessments to ensure high-quality, secure, and resilient solutions.
- Define and optimise platform integration, data fabric, and data governance approaches to enable future AI and automation opportunities.
- Support platform health, operational readiness, environment management, DevOps practices, and continuous improvement across delivery teams.
- Mentor and coach developers, architects, and delivery teams, building capability and fostering architectural excellence across the organisation.
- Build strong relationships with business stakeholders and communicate complex technical concepts in ways that support informed decision making.

What you'll bring
- Proven experience as a Solution Architect, Enterprise Architect, or similar senior technology leadership role delivering complex enterprise solutions.
- Strong architecture expertise across applications, integration, cloud services, data, security, identity management, and enterprise platforms.
- Strong understanding of system integration patterns, APIs, MCP, data standards, and modern cloud architectures.
- Experience working within agile delivery environments and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence decisions and build trusted relationships at all levels.
- A track record of leading technology standards, governance practices, and architectural roadmaps within complex organisations.
What sets you apart
- Experience with Appian, Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, or similar low-code and automation technologies.
- Experience designing data-driven or AI-enabled solutions, including responsible and ethical use of AI technologies.
- Experience in the New Zealand public sector or other highly regulated environments.
- Knowledge of New Zealand government digital, privacy, security, and cloud standards.
- Experience operating within large-scale agile delivery environments.
The annual full-time salary range for this role is between $170,000 -$185,000 depending on skills and experience.
