Solution Architect - Insurance
Summary
Contract solution architect role in Auckland, placed by boutique architecture firm Collada inside a general insurer. One seat owns the insurance-side architecture through a core claims/policy platform migration from on-prem to the vendor's cloud; the other drives compliance readiness for the Contracts of Insurance Act across policy, claims, communications and data.
Salary: $140 – $160 per hour
Collada is a boutique architecture partner. We partner with leaders to uplift and deliver architecture capability, usually in the middle of significant change, and our architects work with us as associates, engaged by Collada and on site as part of the client’s team, with us staying close to the work. We also run The Architecture Collective, the architecture community in New Zealand.
We are currently partnering with an Auckland general insurer as they rebuild part of their architecture practice, and are helping them bring in two architects, possibly more. Both are insurance roles before they are architecture roles.
The first sits over the core insurance product. Claims runs on a well known core insurance platform, on-prem today and moving to its vendor’s cloud. The architect in this seat owns the insurance side of the house through that move, and most of the job is judgement, deciding what years of customisation get carried across and what gets left behind, and holding that line with the business. If you have been through a core platform move to cloud at an insurer, you will know what that means.
The second is the Contracts of Insurance Act. It comes into force on 15 November 2027, so the industry has about thirteen months, and for a general insurer it touches most things, disclosure duties, settling claims within a reasonable time, plain language policy wordings, the unfair contract terms regime extended to insurance. A large part of the programme is being able to show the right thing happened at the right time, so this architect will spend their days on how policy, claims, customer communications and data fit together, and on what evidence comes out of it. It is a cross-system role with a date that won’t move, not a platform role.
The people who will do well here have spent real time inside an insurer, understand claims and policy as a business, and can sit with underwriting and claims teams and talk in their language. If insurance isn’t where you have spent your career, this one won’t be the right fit, and we would rather be upfront about that than waste your time.
