Job Summary

At Prominence Advisors, Solution Engineers sit at the intersection of our clients, sales team, and consulting and technical teams. They serve as the bridge between understanding a client's challenges and designing practical, tailored solutions that align with both business goals and implementation realities.

Solution Engineers engage early in the sales process to understand what a client is trying to accomplish, uncover business and technical requirements, and shape how Prominence can help. They bring together the right people, experience, and expertise to develop solutions that align with the client's goals while accounting for implementation realities. They are responsible for helping ensure proposed solutions are technically feasible, appropriately scoped, and realistic for Prominence to deliver. This includes evaluating architecture options, technical tradeoffs, dependencies, and build-vs.-buy considerations before an approach is recommended. Additionally, they support the transition from sales to delivery, making sure critical knowledge, decisions, and expectations are documented and communicated.

This is not a traditional software pre-sales role. Prominence delivers consulting expertise and outcomes rather than simply selling a product, so every opportunity can look different. Solution Engineers work across a variety of healthcare data, analytics, and technology challenges and help prospective clients understand both what is possible and what working with Prominence could look like. They must be comfortable moving from conversations with healthcare executives and business leaders into detailed technical discussions with architects, engineers, analysts, and other subject matter experts.

Our ideal team members are humble, smart, and driven to ensure our customer’s success. This includes a passion to deliver high-quality results, while teaching our counterparts how to fish and grow the skills needed to support and expand upon the deliverables of our projects.

If this sounds like you, and you meet the requirements below, we encourage you to apply. If you know of someone else who would be a great fit, let us know.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in client discovery conversations to understand business goals, technical challenges, requirements, priorities, and constraints.
  • Design tailored solutions and implementation approaches that translate client needs into actionable, achievable engagements that are technically feasible, appropriately scoped, and realistic for Prominence to deliver.
  • Evaluate architecture options, technical tradeoffs, dependencies, and build vs. buy decisions, identifying the implications, risks, and constraints of different approaches.
  • Collaborate with sales, partner managers, technical subject matter experts, and delivery leaders to bring the right Prominence expertise into each opportunity.
  • Develop technical approaches, architectures, demonstrations, estimates, timelines, staffing recommendations, scopes, presentations, and proposal content as needed.
  • Translate between business needs and technical considerations, moving comfortably between executive/business conversations and detailed technical discussions and adapting the level of detail for each audience.
  • Provide subject matter expertise during client conversations, presentations, and solution-development activities, while recognizing when deeper technical expertise is needed and bringing the appropriate SMEs into the conversation.
  • Quickly develop enough fluency in unfamiliar technologies or technical domains to ask the right questions, identify risks or gaps, and determine what additional expertise is needed.
  • Identify relevant Prominence experience, case studies, prior work, and proof points that demonstrate our ability to solve similar challenges.
  • Surface assumptions, dependencies, risks, and open questions early, so proposed solutions are both compelling to clients and realistic to deliver.
  • Support the transition from sales to delivery by ensuring key requirements, decisions, commitments, assumptions, and expectations are clearly documented and communicated.
  • Adapt your approach as new information emerges, priorities shift, or an opportunity evolves.

This position is a full-time, salaried role with benefits. There is no relocation required. Candidates are required to have a suitable home office to operate from.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in solution engineering, or a comparable client-facing technical role requiring you to understand complex healthcare technology problems and develop practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience working with healthcare data and technology, including health systems, healthcare analytics, interoperability, clinical or operational systems, or related healthcare technology environments.
  • Demonstrated technical depth in modern data, cloud, analytics, integration, or AI architectures, with the ability to evaluate solution approaches and understand how components, platforms, and systems fit together.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or contribute to client discovery, requirements gathering, solution design, or scoping activities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize business and technical information into a clear recommended approach and articulate the technical tradeoffs behind that recommendation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with healthcare executives, business leaders, technical teams, and subject matter experts.
  • Ability to move comfortably between high-level business conversations and detailed technical discussions.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple teams or disciplines to develop solutions, recommendations, proposals, or project plans.
  • Ability to develop and communicate project assumptions, estimates, timelines, dependencies, risks, and implementation considerations.
  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar technologies and technical domains, ask effective questions, and recognize when deeper subject matter expertise is required.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous environments where requirements may evolve and the right solution is not immediately obvious.
  • Ability to manage multiple opportunities, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience in healthcare consulting, technical pre-sales, solution architecture, implementation consulting, or a similar role.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data platforms, analytics technologies, electronic health records, cloud technologies, interoperability, or related technical domains.
  • Experience partnering directly with health system executives, operational leaders, clinical leaders, or other healthcare business stakeholders to shape technology or data solutions.
  • Experience developing statements of work, proposals, implementation plans, staffing models, effort estimates, or other materials used to define consulting engagements.
  • Experience presenting solutions, recommendations, demonstrations, or technical concepts to executive and technical audiences.
  • Experience developing or evaluating high-level technical architectures and partnering with technical SMEs to validate detailed solution design.
  • Experience comparing technology or architecture options and making recommendations based on tradeoffs including cost, complexity, scalability, implementation effort, risk, and client environment.
  • Experience supporting the transition of an opportunity from sales or solution development into project delivery.
  • A track record of building trusted relationships with clients and internal stakeholders through thoughtful communication, curiosity, and sound judgment.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Consultative problem-solving: Ability to quickly understand complex or ambiguous client challenges, ask thoughtful questions, identify underlying needs, and translate those needs into practical solutions.
  • Solution design: Ability to connect business objectives, technical considerations, available expertise, implementation requirements, and constraints into a cohesive solution approach that is technically feasible and realistic to deliver. Discovery and requirements gathering: Skilled at leading conversations that uncover client goals, requirements, priorities, dependencies, risks, assumptions, and measures of success.

  • Executive communication: Strong written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate recommendations confidently and concisely to senior leaders as well as technical stakeholders.
  • Healthcare technology knowledge: Strong working knowledge of healthcare technology, data, analytics, interoperability, clinical or operational workflows, or related areas, with the ability to quickly learn unfamiliar technologies and domains.
  • Technical curiosity and judgment: Ability to rapidly learn enough about unfamiliar technologies to ask the right questions, identify important gaps or dependencies, and know when to engage deeper technical SMEs rather than overextending personal expertise.
  • Scoping and estimation: Ability to translate a proposed solution into a realistic implementation approach, including scope, staffing, effort, timelines, assumptions, dependencies, and risks, and validate that Prominence has the capabilities and capacity required to deliver it successfully.
  • Collaboration and influence: Ability to bring together sales, consulting, technical, and delivery perspectives and build alignment without relying on direct authority.
  • Commercial awareness: Understanding of how client needs, solution value, scope, effort, and delivery considerations come together in a consulting opportunity.
  • Adaptability: Ability to operate effectively when information is incomplete, requirements change, or priorities evolve and to adjust recommendations accordingly.
  • Organization and prioritization: Ability to manage multiple opportunities and competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness, and attention to detail.
