Solutions Architect

Location: UNAVAILABLE, UNAVAILABLE, US

Employment Type: FULL_TIME

Overview

Design and evolve complex, distributed software systems, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and aligned with the company’s strategic goals.

The base salary range for this position is $115,690-$181,798.

Actual pay will be determined based upon a candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, geographic location, and may include other job-related factors such as certification(s), professional licensure, or internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with engineering and product teams to define scalable, maintainable microservices architecture using domain-driven design and distributed systems principles.
  • Design and implement event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka (or similar), including asynchronous messaging, event sourcing, sagas, schema management, and service integration.
  • Define architecture for mobile and backend integration, including data modeling, offline synchronization, conflict resolution, BFF patterns, and API design.
  • Standardize containerization with Docker across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Deploy and manage applications on Kubernetes to ensure scalability, resilience, and high availability.
  • Design and deploy cloud-native solutions on AWS using services such as EKS, EC2, S3, RDS/Aurora, Lambda, and API Gateway.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or AWS CDK/CloudFormation to automate provisioning and support GitOps.
  • Establish best practices for security, resilience, observability, and operational excellence acrossmicroservices and event-driven systems.
  • Ensure architectures meet security, compliance, and HIPAA requirements through encryption, access controls, audit logging, and secure configurations.
  • Prototype and validate architectural solutions through spikes and proof of concepts to reduce risk and align with business goals.
  • Lead architecture reviews, threat modeling, and code reviews to ensure architectural standards, performance, and security.
  • Create and maintain architectural documentation, including ADRs, C4 diagrams, data flow diagrams, runbooks, and technical guidance.
  • Collaborate closely with other internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on technical strategies, roadmaps, and objectives.
  • Contribute to technology evaluations, tool selection, and the ongoing evolution of the platform toward well-structured, domain-drive, and event-driven microservices.
  • Support onboarding and enablement of engineering teams on architectural patters, tools, and standards adopted by the platform.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or above in Computer Science or related field coupled with 8+ years of experience in software engineering with at least 4+ years in a Solution Architect, Principal Engineer, or equivalent technical leadership role designing and delivering complex, distributed production systems. Previous experience in highly regulated industries with strict requirements around data privacy preferred.

  • Expertise with Java, Spring Boot, and reactive programming in large-scaled production environments.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating GraphQL APIs, including schema design, authorization, performance optimization, pagination, caching strategies, and resolver/federation patterns.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and Apache Kafka in production: topics, partitions, consumer groups, exactly-once processing, schema registry/Avro/Protobuf, dead-letter queues, and integration/messaging patterns.
  • Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL strongly preferred), NoSQL, caching strategies (Redis), and thoughtful data modeling for distributed, eventually consistent systems.
  • Ability to design offline-first or hybrid online/offline mobile architectures, including robust synchronization strategies, conflict resolution, and Backend-for-Frontend patterns.
  • Knowledge of security architecture in distributed systems and resilience/observability patterns.
  • Experience with containerization, container orchestration, and modern cloud-native deployment practices on AWS.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and familiarity with GitOps workflows.
  • Experience rapidly prototyping architectural options and making pragmatic, data-driven technology decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
