Solutions Architect
Summary
Technical Solutions Architect at a government contractor, owning technical solutioning from capture through proposal for IT modernization, data analytics, and data/application migration work for the U.S. Army and federal agencies, while shaping an AI-ready technical roadmap. Requires 7+ years' experience, federal proposal wins, and a security clearance.
- Join capture conversations with program offices and prospective customers to answer technical questions in real time and establish credibility beyond what a capture lead alone can convey
- Translate customer pain points surfaced during capture into early, directionally sound technical concepts — enough substance to differentiate us in a conversation, not yet a full design
- Support pre-RFP intelligence gathering by identifying technical constraints, integration points, or risks a customer may not state outright
- Contribute technical input to go/no-go decisions: is this something we can credibly build, staff, and deliver
- Own the technical volume end to end once a capture matures into a solicitation: architecture, delivery methodology, staffing approach, technical risk mitigation, and cost realism
- Translate capture's win themes into a technical approach that actually substantiates them — the solution has to be real, not just a narrative wrapper
- Partner with the proposal manager on compliance and schedule, while retaining final authority over technical content and approach.
- Represent the company in technical evaluation activities (demos, orals, technical exchange meetings) where the customer is assessing feasibility directly
- Help define and maintain a technical roadmap that keeps our migration and analytics offerings competitive — in particular, making our data work demonstrably AI-ready (data quality/labeling for model consumption, MLOps pipelines, agentic tooling) rather than treating AI as a separate practice
- Identify capability gaps surfaced repeatedly across captures and proposals, and turn recurring technical themes into reusable internal assets (reference architectures, demo environments, proof-of-concept tools)
- Technical Oversight of Contract Delivery (Partially Billable or Overhead)
- 7+ years designing and delivering IT modernization, data analytics, or data/application migration solutions, with at least 3 years in a role spanning both pre-sales/capture support and proposal technical ownership
- Demonstrated experience writing and defending technical proposal volumes for federal contracts — you can point to specific wins where your technical approach was a differentiator
- Hands-on depth in cloud migration, data engineering/analytics architecture, and legacy system modernization approaches[DJ1]
- Working knowledge of DoD (ideally Army) technical environments, security requirements, and acquisition processes
- Comfortable being customer-facing in technical conversations — able to field hard questions live, not just in a written deliverable
- Active or recently active security clearance, or ability to obtain one
- Strong technical writing: able to produce a clear, evaluator-friendly technical narrative under proposal deadline pressure
- Experience with AI/ML-adjacent data engineering — data pipelines, labeling/quality processes, or MLOps — applied to a federal or defense context preferred
- Prior involvement in an OTA/CSO-based pursuit preferred
- Experience building internal reusable technical assets (reference architectures, demo environments) rather than one-off proposal content preferred
- Prior experience at a small or mid-tier govcon where you had to own technical scope without a large supporting architecture team preferred
- Remote eligible with up to 25% travel
- Compensation will be determined based on several factors, including relevant experience, education, skills, certifications, and market conditions, with an expected range of $145,000 to $175,000
