Company Overview

Catholic Schools NSW (CSNSW) represents NSW Catholic schools and their owners to the media, government and other education sector stakeholders. Catholic Schools in NSW educate approximately one in five NSW students.

CSNSW has several appointments from the Australian and NSW governments; including:

  • Approved system authority for funding for the NSW Catholic schools system;

  • Approved registration system authority for diocesan Catholic Schools

  • Non-government representative body for NSW Catholic schools; and

  • Catholic Block Grant Authority in New South Wales.

Under its Constitution, CSNSW acts as the overarching entity for the purposes of advancing education and religion in Catholic schools in NSW and ensures that Catholic schools meet their compliance requirements and can measure their activities in such a way as to maximize the education and faith outcomes of students. The company’s constitution is also backed by canonical mandates of delegation from each of the 11 diocesan bishops in New South Wales who are also the members of the Company.

Employees of CSNSW provide advice (to Government and Schools) on the full range of educational policy and compliance drivers impacting contemporary NSW schooling.

Primary Purpose of the role

The Solution Designer works as part of the Data and Information Systems team, reporting to the Head of Data and Information Systems. The Solution Designer will be responsible for evaluating, recommending and delivering integration options within the CSNSW digital ecosystem, to support the existing and developing enterprise architecture.

The CSNSW enterprise architecture has data sharing and integration at its core, and the Solution Designer is charged with turning that enterprise vision into reality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the Data and Information Systems team to design and implement integration patterns between a mix of commercial off-the-shelf applications and bespoke systems, in a predominantly Microsoft environment

  • Define and document integration patterns and APIs, utilising industry-standard methods where applicable

  • Contributing to the CSNSW applications modernisation program by ensuring that applications and systems communicate seamlessly and securely

  • Work with internal IT development and infrastructure teams and external vendors, to ensure that data integration is designed into solutions from the outset, with a view to minimising data silos and isolated data islands

  • Ensure solutions provide adequate controls to enable appropriate data governance processes and practices to be implemented

  • Identify opportunities to integrate CSNSW systems with those of external organisations and design integration solutions to support interoperability with them

  • Documenting and enhancing the CSNSW enterprise architecture

  • Assist in general projects, enquiries, and support as needed.

Key Challenges

  • Identifying suitable integration points and patterns to connect modern API-first applications with legacy applications

  • Ensuring data integrity, security, privacy and compliance are paramount in solution designEnsuring integration patterns are robust and sufficiently isolate applications from changes in connected systems.

  • Delivering strategic requirements on time and managing competing priorities.

Essential Requirements

  • Solid understanding of architecture principles and their application

  • Experience in designing, building and implementing system integrations

  • Strong understanding of and experience with the Microsoft ecosystem (M365, D365, Power Platform, Dataverse, Azure)

  • Experience in designing, securing and deploying APIs for data sharing with internal and external systems

  • Demonstrated experience with e-commerce solutions and payment gateways

  • Experience with identity integration technologies such as SAML, OIDC, SCIM

  • National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014

  • Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.

  • Empathy with and support for the mission, ethos and beliefs of CSNSW and the communities they serve.

Highly Desirable

  • Knowledge of the NSW and Australian educational data and governance landscape

  • Knowledge of architecture frameworks such as TOGAF

  • Knowledge of PCI-DSS payment card requirements and controls

  • Experience in coding in Python, .Net Core etc

  • Experience with database and data warehouse platforms such as Azure SQL and Snowflake
