Description

Sous Chef

Boutique Luxury Hotel | Houston Area

Reports to: Executive Chef & Director of Food & Beverage

About the Role

We’re looking for a disciplined, creative, and quietly confident Sous Chef to run the line and elevate every

detail in a small, high-touch luxury kitchen. This is not a volume play. It’s about precision, consistency, and

making guests feel like every plate was made just for them. You’ll work side-by-side with a James Beard award-winning

Chef who expects excellence and gives you real ownership.

What You’ll Own

• Run daily kitchen operations, including mise en place, line management, and service execution across

all meal periods

• Maintain the Executive Chef’s standards on every plate — taste, temperature, presentation, and timing

• Lead, train, and develop the culinary team (including station cooks, garde manger, and pastry as

needed)

• Assist in menu development, seasonal changes, and special events while protecting the house style

• Manage food cost, inventory, ordering, and receiving with a sharp eye on waste and quality

• Enforce food safety, sanitation, and allergen protocols without compromise

• Step into the Executive Chef’s role during absences and represent the kitchen with poise to guests and

hotel leadership

• Collaborate with F&B;, banquets, and front-of-house teams to deliver seamless, personalized guest

experiences

What You Bring

• 5+ years in fine-dining or luxury hotel kitchens, with at least 2 years in a Sous Chef or senior lead role

• Strong classical foundation plus modern technique — you know when to follow tradition and when to

push it

• Proven ability to lead a small, high-performing team in a boutique environment

• Excellent palate, knife skills, and timing under pressure

• Experience with cost control, ordering systems, and inventory management

• ServSafe or equivalent certification

• Calm under pressure, obsessive about details, and able to communicate clearly with both the team and

the Executive Chef

• Bonus: familiarity with wine and beverage pairings, or experience in a James Beard–recognized

kitchen

The Setting

Intimate property, serious kitchen, guests who notice everything. You’ll have access to excellent product, a

Chef who has already earned the recognition, and the chance to refine your own voice under real

standards.
