Job: Specialist Solutions Design Engineer

Summary

Serves as the organization’s highest-level individual contributor in solutions design engineering. Owns the most complex, highest-value, and most strategically critical opportunities in the pipeline. Functions as the internal subject matter authority on network design, pricing methodology, and solution engineering best practices. Defines how the team works — not just what they deliver. Influences commercial strategy, shapes organizational capability, and operates as a trusted advisor to Sales leadership, Operations executives, and key customers.

What does a normal day look like?

• Own the organization’s most complex, highest-value, and highest-risk solution design engagements end to end from raw data intake and modeling through pricing, review, and customer presentation
• Serve as the escalation point for any deal where standard modeling approaches are insufficient or where pricing strategy requires expert judgment
• Define, build, and govern the team’s solution design methodology — including model architecture, costing frameworks, pricing logic, and documentation standards
• Evaluate and drive adoption of new tools, platforms, and analytical capabilities including AI-assisted optimization and automation
• Function as the internal subject matter authority on network design, transportation cost structures, and competitive pricing strategy
• Lead strategic win/loss reviews at the portfolio level; synthesize patterns and translate insights into methodology improvements across the team
• Serve as a technical and strategic advisor to Sales leadership and Operations executives on complex pursuits, renewals, and competitive bids
• Represent the solutions engineering function in executive-level customer discussions; bring credibility, depth, and gravitas to high-stakes engagements
• Develop and deliver structured training, mentorship, and enablement materials for SDE I and SDE II engineers
• Lead or sponsor internal capability-building initiatives: tooling improvements, automation of recurring workflows, development of reusable model libraries
• Champion a culture of intellectual rigor, continuous improvement, and competitive excellence across the team
• Perform other duties as assigned

What makes this job right for you?

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 8+ years of progressive experience in logistics, supply chain, or transportation engineering — with at least 3 years at a Senior level
• Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and at least one network optimization platform (Direct Route, Blue Yonder, Manhattan, or equivalent)
• Advanced experience with Power BI, Tableau, or comparable analytics and visualization platforms
• Required: strong proficiency in Python, SQL, or R; ability to build, maintain, and document analytical tools and models
• Required: experience with transportation management systems (TMS) and working knowledge of operational execution
• Mastery of transportation cost structures, mode economics, carrier contract mechanics, and full-cycle pricing strategy
• Required: Working knowledge of AI-assisted optimization, automation tools, or machine learning applications in supply chain
• Demonstrated history of leading enterprise-scale or multi-modal solution design engagements from inception through implementation
• Proven executive-level communication skills: able to present, defend, and negotiate complex solutions with C-suite stakeholders and large customers
• Track record of building team capability — mentoring talent, authoring methodology, and elevating team-wide standards
