Through high-impact tutoring, educator training, and community partnerships grounded in the science of reading, Reading Assist provides intensive literacy support across Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC.
Reading Assist is launching a Pre-K Literacy Pilot to deliver small group and classroom-based literacy support in early childhood centers across Wilmington. Through this pilot, trained Early Literacy Guides will work in Pre-K classrooms to deliver evidence-based instruction grounded in the science of reading and aligned to developmentally appropriate, play-based practices.
The Special Project Coordinator will lead all aspects of this pilot, from curriculum selection and program design to staff management and outcome reporting. This role serves as the operational and programmatic lead for the initiative, ensuring the pilot is implemented with fidelity, Early Literacy Guides are well-supported, and participating centers experience the program as a high-quality, low-burden partnership.

Responsibilities:
- Research, evaluate, and select a developmentally appropriate Pre-K literacy curriculum aligned to the science of reading for children ages 4–5
- Design and oversee the overall pilot program, including implementation timelines, instructional models, and site protocols
- Hire, train, and directly manage four Early Literacy Guides who deliver classroom-based literacy support across participating centers
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Pre-K center directors and classroom teachers to support effective, flexible implementation
- Develop and maintain scheduling across up to 15 Pre-K classrooms at multiple sites, coordinating Early Literacy Guide assignments
- Oversee administration of pre- and post-program assessments using the Preschool Early Literacy Indicators (PELI) tool
- Monitor student outcome data, identify children needing additional support, and use data to continuously improve program delivery
- Facilitate regular team meetings with Early Literacy Guides to ensure instructional quality, shared learning, and staff satisfaction
- Serve as the primary liaison between Reading Assist and participating early childhood centers throughout the pilot period
- Manage the pilot budget, track expenditures, and maintain accurate records across all program cost categories
- Produce a final pilot report including student outcome data, participant feedback, and recommendations for future programming
Regular travel is required to early childhood centers across Wilmington and surrounding areas. Some evening hours may be required. This position is based in Wilmington, DE, and candidates are expected to work in the Wilmington office on a hybrid schedule.
