About the role

We are looking for a Specialist Sales who will be responsible for selling commodity products, demanding well-developed interpersonal and collaboration skills to manage and develop relationship with end users and trading house. In this role, you will negotiate physical contracts with customers and traders across the Pacific.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Pilbara Sales, this role is responsible for executing the Pilbara spot sales strategy and maximizing portfolio value through effective sales negotiations, market intelligence, commercial analysis, and contract administration. Working closely with Sales Planning, Commercial Markets, Risk & Governance, and Account Managers, the role drives spot sales performance across brokered, bilateral, and tender channels while balancing operational uncertainty, market dynamics, and commercial risk.

Spot Sales Commercial Execution

  • Working with Principal Advisor Sales Planning, the Specialist is accountable in executing the spot sales strategy, leading spot sales negotiations through platform brokers and bilateral sales/tender via account managers.
  • Provide recommendations into the formulation of Spot sales strategy, including cadence of sales, channel strategy and price targets.
  • Optimize the overall portfolio value through creation and negotiation of volume optionality to balance operational uncertainties and market dynamics.
  • Support decision making between short and long term deals with value-risk trade off analysis.
  • Actively source for market intel through engagement with brokers and share such information with the wider commercial team.
  • Work closely with Commercial Markets Desk and Commercial Risk and Governance teams to further develop on iron ore trading capabilities and hedging strategies on overall book management.
  • Maintain spot sales databases that capture and analyse key sales and customer data.
  • Assist with annual sales plans and channel allocation strategy preparation between long term contract, term contract, spot and portside allocation decisions.
  • Track allocation execution and propose tactical changes to strategy.

LTC administration and Reporting

  • Administer and execute commercial terms of long-term contracts, including consolidating and validating freight rebates, VP rebates, monitoring mutual option declarations, and managing large vessel incentive payments.
  • Consolidate and prepare Pilbara Sales monthly report.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A recognized University degree.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in commercial in commodities sector, across sales & marketing, supply chain and trading, and business improvements.
  • Prior experience in iron ore market or other commodity is preferred.
  • Confident in challenging the status quo and experience in driving trade-off analysis, efficiencies and effectiveness through business improvement.
  • Project management knowledge.
  • Ability to manage external and internal relationships and influence commercial outcomes.
