The Speech-Language Pathologist will:

  • Utilize the speech-language pathology process to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care across the inpatient unit, swing bed program, and community-based diagnostic services.
  • Provide individualized evaluation and treatment for patients with communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders, developing and implementing tailored care plans that promote safety, functional independence, and quality of life.
  • Evaluate patients recovering from surgery, trauma, neurological events, or acute illness, with a particular emphasis on dysphagia management, including the completion and interpretation of modified barium swallow studies for both inpatient and community-referred patients. Treatment may also address speech, language, voice, and cognitive-communication deficits as appropriate to each patient’s needs.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary rehabilitation and medical team to provide direct therapy, patient and family education, and clinical recommendations to support optimal outcomes.
  • Include thorough documentation of evaluations, treatment sessions, and patient progress, as well as ongoing communication with providers to ensure coordinated care.
  • Contribute to admission decision-making, discharge planning, and recommendations for continued services or higher levels of care, all while navigating the unique and rewarding challenges of a rural healthcare environment.
