Summary
Part-time Sports Official responsible for officiating youth sports games across Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove sites, ensuring player safety, fair play, and equipment management. No specialized IT technologies required.
Class: Non-Exempt, Part Time
Hourly Rate: $21.00/hour
Hours: Up to 29 hours/week; M-F 2:30-6:00pm
Location: Various sites
Job Summary: Support the Athletics Program in providing a safe and fun environment in which to play sports, through regulation of sports games and events across multiple grade levels.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Use effective communication and maintain a professional tone in written and verbal communication consistently with staff members, volunteers, school personnel, parents and all community stakeholders

Communicate all pertinent program information with supervisor

Respond to all forms of communication in a timely manner

Uphold the organization’s mission and values; follow BGCGG and GGUSD standards of conduct

Demonstrate flexibility; minimize interpersonal conflict

Maintain good sportsmanship throughout the sports events and deescalate as needed

Sufficiently supervise and interact with children and enforce safety standards

Observe actions of players at sporting events

Maintain visual and auditory abilities to act swiftly in an emergency; immediately respond to and report any emergencies or accidents to management
-
Regulate plays and watch for broken rules; make decisions quickly and fairly
-
Signal players or other officials to regulate play
-
Maintain knowledge of game rules and regulations; direct players to assigned areas
-
Confer with other officials to coordinate actions and discuss problems
-
Recognize potential issues and apply problem solving as needed
-
Maintain concentration in situations with many possible distractions
-
Maintain quality of sporting equipment – maintain air pressure in balls, quality of nets, etc.; report to management any equipment no longer safe for use

Inspect sporting equipment and players to ensure safety and compliance with rules
-
Safely operate BGC vehicles to transport sporting equipment to BGCGG program locations for sports events

Safely load and unload sporting equipment, as well as set up and break down of sporting equipment

Regularly check the sporting calendar and maintain up to date knowledge of the calendar

Effectively use written, verbal, and non-verbal communication

Perform all other duties as assigned
Additional Duties & Responsibilities

Support Main Branch and Expanded Learning Program sites as needed during off-season and inclement weather

Apply classroom management and behavior strategies when supporting other sites
