SQL Database Administrator
Summary
A SQL Database Administrator at law firm A&O Shearman's Aldgate, Central London office, managing Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL infrastructure. Day-to-day work covers high availability/clustering (SQL AG), performance and replication tuning, monitoring, and PowerShell scripting.
Salary: £45,000 - 73,000 per year
Requirements:- We are looking for someone proficient in Microsoft SQL Azure Server and SQL infrastructure.
- AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals and DP-900 Azure Data Fundamentals are preferred.
- We need experience with SQL AG, clustering and high availability features.
- We need SQL and PowerShell scripting experience.
- We need experience with SQL and server performance tuning.
- We need experience with SQL replication performance and monitoring tuning.
- We need an understanding of Linux server management.
- We need the ability to work independently and strong communication skills.
- We value experience with programming languages including PowerShell, SQL and Linux.
- We look for knowledge and use of DevOps, GitHub and other collaboration tool sets.
- We will support the key databases for applications used by our firm, including finance, customer relationship management, business intake and time capture.
- We will support other business-critical applications, including file transfer, legal technology and various application services.
- We will work with third parties who provide expertise in these systems.
- We will support our database infrastructure, including MS-SQL.
- We will support the Dynamics365 platform and applications built on it.
- We will package, configure, test and deploy applications to our firm.
- We will work with other service support teams in I&O, including End-User Compute, Infrastructure and Networks, to provide a world-class service to our business.
- We will work with our global service desk, regional support teams and the global IT department.
- We will provide technical database expertise on projects when required.
- We will ensure availability, scalability and performance of all application database systems through data metrics.
- We will capture and analyse database metrics and bring forward improvements to database systems.
- We will identify, design and implement robust monitoring alerts to identify potential issues early.
- We will maintain core database infrastructure servers in Azure, AVS and on-premises.
- We will develop backup and restore procedures for major databases to ensure data integrity.
- We will develop and leverage automation procedures to turn repeatable actions into automated processes.
- We will analyse database capacity metrics on all server infrastructure.
- We will provide database engineering expertise to optimise database migrations, queries and performance.
- We will manage and monitor SQL availability groups and clustered SQL servers.
- We will lead database-related projects and ensure timely delivery.
- We will analyse and use data to identify and prioritise operations to find the root cause of major issues.
- We will participate in on-call and out-of-hours support for both applications and databases.
- We will support maintenance reviews and vulnerability assessments of MS SQL.
- We will document and share learnings with the wider team, including team upskilling.
- We will collaborate with other engineering teams on production changes, incidents and problem management.
