Sr. Algorithm Developer
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join Vero Biotech's Research & Development organization as a Senior Firmware/Algorithm Developer.
This individual will initially lead hands-on development of dosing algorithms and component characterization models for Vero Biotech's next-generation GENOSYL inhaled nitric oxide delivery platform. The role will develop, simulate, test, and mature algorithms in Python, then translate proven designs into production-quality C/C++ firmware.
The Senior Firmware/Algorithm Developer will work closely with controls, systems, firmware, electrical, mechanical engineering, verification, quality, regulatory, and test teams to define interfaces, evaluate product performance, and resolve cross-domain issues. Over approximately the first year, the role is expected to assume increasing firmware technical leadership responsibility, including design reviews, technical direction, integration planning, and mentoring. This is an onsite position in Atlanta, GA
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop complex open and closed loop dose delivery algorithms in Python using system, sensor, and characterization data; define algorithm behavior, operating limits, and performance metrics aligned with product requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and improve characterization models for critical system components and interactions, including sensors, valves, motors, temperature control elements, and other electromechanical hardware.
- Develop quick-turn test functionality, analysis scripts, simulation tools, and test rig capabilities that accelerate algorithm learning, tuning, and verification.
- Plan and execute data-driven experiments; analyze test data, update models, quantify uncertainty, and assess algorithm and system performance against product requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Interface directly with firmware boards and physical hardware; diagnose issues involving sensors, actuators, communications, timing, and control behavior; lead disciplined root cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Translate mature Python algorithms into maintainable, testable C/C++ designs for embedded firmware, including implementation of real time behavior, data validation, diagnostics, fault handling, and safe state behavior as applicable.
- Work closely with controls, systems, firmware, electrical, mechanical engineering, and verification teams to define interfaces, review designs, evaluate performance, and resolve integration issues.
- Create and maintain requirements, architecture and design documentation, test protocols, reports, and bidirectional traceability consistent with Vero Biotech quality processes and applicable design controls.
- Progressively assume firmware technical lead responsibilities over the first year, including leading technical reviews, establishing development and test practices, coordinating technical work and risks, mentoring team members, and supporting verification, regulatory submission, and product launch activities.
