Sr. Backend Engineer

Role Overview

Based in our Bangalore, India office and reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Senior Backend Engineer will serve as a foundational pillar of our engineering team. This is a high-impact, hands‑on role requiring a blend of technical mastery and pragmatic leadership.

The ideal candidate possesses a builder’s mindset—someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, takes extreme ownership of the codebase, and can mentor junior engineers while executing complex architectural designs. You aren't just writing code; you are shaping the technical foundation of a scaling fintech platform.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Oversight & Architecture

• System Design: Design, build, and scale robust, high‑performance microservices and cloud‑native backend systems.
• Database Optimization: Architect and optimize database schemas and queries across relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB) databases to handle large‑scale data processing.
• API Management: Design and implement highly secure, performant RESTful and GraphQL APIs for internal and third‑party integrations.

Execution & Strategy

• Roadmap Alignment: Collaborate closely with the CTO to translate business requirements and long‑term product vision into clean, scalable technical solutions.
• Security & Compliance: Implement and enforce industry‑leading security practices for authentication, authorization, and data protection.
• DevOps Culture: Establish and mature CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes) for automated, seamless deployments.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

• Mentorship: Elevate the engineering team by conducting thorough code reviews, mentoring junior/mid‑level engineers, and advocating for clean code practices.
• Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with front‑end engineers, data scientists, and product managers to ensure seamless end‑to‑end API consumption and feature delivery.

Executive Reporting

• Progress Tracking: Keep the CTO and executive stakeholders informed on system performance metrics, technical debt, project timelines, and infrastructure bottlenecks.

Requirements

Experience

• Years of Experience: 5+ years of professional backend development experience, with a proven track record in a Senior or Lead capacity.
• Industry Context: Experience working within fast‑growing startups, fintech, or high‑transaction SaaS environments is highly preferred.
• Geographic Location: Ability to work full‑time out of our Bangalore, India office.

Technical Skills

• Core Languages: Advanced proficiency in Spring Boot and Python.
• Databases: Strong hands‑on experience with both relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB, MongoDB) databases.
• Cloud Ecosystems: Deep experience deploying and managing infrastructure on AWS and GCP.
• DevOps Tools: Practical knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and building automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Protocols: Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and modern security protocols.
