Sr. Civil Designer
POSITION SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to initiate and develop practical, cost effective and fully functional civil designs and design drawings for any type of project that involves civil engineering through completion for the assigned project. Specifically, civil engineering as it pertains to grading, drainage, underground utilities, roadway design and erosion and sediment control features. The scope of this position requires an individual to perform a Civil Designer role on any project with respect to the development of civil designs and the generation of civil design drawings and the coordination of these designs with the other disciplines.
Work is accomplished with limited direction. Determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met.
Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Constructs and may pursue alternative paths towards a solution. Exercises judgment in selecting method, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results consistent with broadly defined policies and practices.
Problem/Task resolution timeframe: Inclusive of shorter timeframes, but typically six to twelve months or more to resolve.

Sr. Civil Designer IV
- Under minimal supervision, develop complex Civil engineering design drawings.
- Applies a solid level of understanding within the civil discipline
- .Understands codes, permits, and software applications related to civil discipline.
Sr. Civil Designer III
- Fully understands the process of preparing design drawings using project specifications and discipline associated instructions in accordance with established practices, standards, and procedures.
- Basic understanding of Civil engineer’s process of performing and verifying design calculations to support other designers and overall project design.
- Fully understands the purpose and use of vendor documents and reviews civil discipline supplied documents for accuracy and project compliance. Can also review other disciplines vendor documents.
Sr. Civil Designer II
- Understands compliance of engineering efforts, project schedule, controls, estimates, and company procedures with assistance from the Lead Civil Designer and Supervising Engineer.
- Uses initiative and judgement in evaluating, modifying, and applying design practices and techniques.
- Coordinates work with that of others in discipline group and other discipline groups on the project.
Sr. Civil Designer I
- Establishes standards of quality and quantity and approves the work of other designers and drafters with assistance from the Lead Civil Designer and Supervising Engineer.
- Expert in the use of the company’s civil design software to the degree that no assistance is required in the generation of design drawings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PER JOB LEVEL
- Sr. Civil Designer IV – Tech/Trade School/Continuing Education; ten (10) years experience
- Sr. Civil Designer III – Tech/Trade School/Continuing Education; twelve (12) years experience
- Sr. Civil Designer II – Tech/Trade School/Continuing Education; fourteen (14) years experience
- Sr. Civil Designer I - Tech/Trade School/Continuing Education; fifteen (15) years experience
