The Disney Decision Science and Integration (DDSI) team leverages advanced technologies, data analytics, and scientific approaches such as optimization and statistical modeling to build innovative tools that shape business decisions across The Walt Disney Company. We support Disney Entertainment (ABC, The Walt Disney Studios, Disney+, Hulu), ESPN, Disney Experiences (Theme Parks, Cruise Line, Consumer Products, DVC), and Corporate Finance with strategic applications that enable data-driven decision-making.
The Sr Data Engineer supports a broad range of work, including data acquisition and validation, ETL/ELT pipeline development, database design and implementation, and ongoing evolution of the next-generation data platform to support applications, data services, ad hoc analytics, and self-service/POC initiatives.
Responsibilities
Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for partnering with our Studios or Enterprise Technology team members in various activities around data requirements gathering, data validation scripting and review, developing and monitoring ETL/ELT data pipelines, designing and implementing database schema/tables/views, plus deployment across multiple environments such as DEV, QA/UAT and PROD.
The role will leverage a multitude of technologies to fulfill the work including, but not limited to SQL, Python, Docker, Gitlab, Airflow, Snowflake, Looker and PostgreSQL.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform development, or backend engineering roles
Hands-on Python development skills
Ability to write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries
Proven ability to design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines
Working knowledge of cloud-based technologies, preferably AWS and S3
Familiarity with Apache Airflow, Databricks, and generative AI tools
Ability to design, build, and leverage relational databases
Proficiency with GitLab and/or GitHub for version control and collaboration
Ability to work with large datasets and cloud-based big data technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, or similar platforms
SQL query optimization skills focused on runtime performance and cost efficiency
Participate in driving best practices around data engineering software development processes
Background in data engineering roles
SQL, Python, Snowflake, Gitlab, Airflow, AWS S3 and Relational Databases
Cloud platform development skills
Knowledge of data lakes, data warehouses, and application databases
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Snowflake, Airflow, Gitlab, Tableau
Hands-on experience with generative AI and LLMs, including developer enablement and adoption.
Experience in streaming, media, or digital marketing domain
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in advanced mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
Preferred Education
Master’s degree in advanced mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
