THE ROLE:

AMD is seeking a strategic, hands-on Senior Director of Global Payroll to lead end-to-end payroll operations and transformation across our global footprint. This leader will be accountable for accurate, timely, and compliant pay delivery while advancing a harmonized operating model, modern technology ecosystem, strong controls, and an exceptional employee experience. The role will partner closely with Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Total Rewards, HR Technology, IT, and regional business leaders to scale payroll operations in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate is an accomplished global payroll executive who combines strategic vision with operational depth. You are a direct, humble, and collaborative leader who can simplify complex processes, develop high-performing global teams, and influence senior stakeholders. You bring strong judgment, a compliance and controls mindset, and practical experience using automation and AI to improve accuracy, efficiency, insight, and service while maintaining responsible human oversight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and develop a globally distributed payroll organization, establishing clear accountability, succession depth, and consistent capabilities across regions.
  • Own end-to-end payroll delivery across countries and entities, including regular and off-cycle payrolls, terminations, equity and incentive payments, and year-end processing.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll execution in accordance with local labor, tax, statutory, and reporting requirements.
  • Establish and monitor global service standards, operational metrics, controls, audit readiness, and issue resolution, with clear regional accountability.
  • Lead the global payroll and time-tracking transformation roadmap, including operating model design, process standardization, technology consolidation, vendor transitions, integrations, and change management.
  • Define scalable global processes and controls that reduce unnecessary local variation while respecting statutory and business requirements.
  • Partner with Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Compliance, Total Rewards, HR Technology, IT, and business leaders on payroll funding, accounting, reporting, data integrity, policy, and employee experience.
  • Provide payroll leadership for mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, new-country or entity expansion, and major policy or program rollouts.
  • Own payroll vendor and managed-service-provider strategy, including selection, contracts, service levels, governance, risk, and commercial performance.
  • Serve as the senior subject matter expert and escalation point for complex global payroll, compliance, audit, and employee pay matters.
  • Establish and execute an automation and AI roadmap for payroll, applying responsible solutions to validation, reconciliations, gross-to-net review, anomaly detection, case management, and self-service.
  • Ensure automated and AI-enabled processes include appropriate data protection, human review, auditability, accuracy monitoring, and governance.
  • Own payroll reporting, forecasting, and analytics, and provide executive-level visibility into payroll costs, service performance, risks, controls, and strategic initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of execution excellence, continuous improvement, collaboration, inclusion, and employee-centered service.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Progressive payroll experience, including significant leadership responsibility for global or multi-region payroll operations.
  • Demonstrated success leading a large-scale payroll transformation, consolidation, implementation, or vendor transition as the accountable business owner.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. payroll and tax requirements, with strong working knowledge of multi-country payroll compliance, controls, and operating practices.
  • Experience leading leaders and globally distributed teams across multiple countries and time zones.
  • Experience with enterprise payroll, human capital management, and time-tracking platforms; experience with Workday, CloudPay, ADP, or comparable solutions is valued.
  • Proven ability to apply automation and AI in payroll or adjacent HR and Finance operations, with measurable improvements in accuracy, controls, cycle time, manual effort, or cost to serve.
  • Strong understanding of SOX-aligned controls, audit requirements, data privacy, payroll risk, and governance in a global environment.
  • Experience with incentive, commission, equity, and executive payroll at scale.
  • Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, entity expansion, or complex organizational change.
  • Exceptional executive presence, cross-cultural communication, stakeholder partnership, and ability to balance strategic leadership with operational excellence.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
