Sr Director, Platform Engineering – Data Platform & Agentic Platform
Summary
Lead the platform engineering organization at RELX, delivering shared data platform services (ingestion, integration, governance) and production-grade AI/agentic workflow platforms with observability, guardrails, and enterprise security, adopted across multiple product teams in a regulated environment.
In this role you will lead the engineering organization responsible for shared platform capabilities that enable trusted data services and production-grade AI-driven workflows. You will partner with Platform Product Management to ensure scalable, reliable, and secure platforms adopted across product domains, driving high-quality execution. Your work will focus on ingestion, integration, governance, AI workflow guardrails, and enterprise security, with a emphasis on measurable impact and cross-functional collaboration. - Lead delivery of shared platform services and data capabilities used by multiple product domains
- Translate product requirements into scalable designs and delivery plans
- Provide capacity forecasts, sequencing, and risk assessments for platform roadmap decisions
- Build and operate ingestion, integration, and modernization capabilities to improve data trust and reuse
- Implement canonical data contracts and APIs with versioning and backward compatibility
- Implement agent workflow platform capabilities aligned to product standards, including traceability and state management
- Establish production-grade evaluation, observability, auditability, and guardrails for safe AI workflows
- Implement security controls, access governance, encryption, and audit requirements with InfoSec and ensure SDLC and vulnerability management compliance
- 12+ years leading platform engineering with production operations accountability
- Proven success with platforms adopted by multiple product teams, including reliability and incident management
- Strong hands-on leadership in distributed systems and platform engineering
- Deep experience with data platform engineering at scale (ingestion, integration, data quality, metadata and lineage, secure access)
- Experience enabling AI-powered systems in production (evaluation, monitoring, observability, auditability, guardrails)
- Ability to partner with product leaders on contract-driven platforms and deliver outcomes
- Proven ability to hire and develop high-performing engineering teams including AI platform engineers
- Experience building AI workflow platforms or shared AI services; familiarity with regulated/high-trust systems advantageous
