Role Purpose

A Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer designs, builds, secures, and scales an organization's core technology systems across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. The role combines deep hands-on expertise across enterprise compute, storage, and virtualization with knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS or GCP).

Key Responsibilities

  • System Reliability, Monitoring & Capacity Planning: Design, build, and maintain highly available, scalable systems across hybrid and cloud environments. Define SLIs/SLOs, build out the monitoring and observability roadmap, and analyze resource usage to forecast and manage capacity as traffic and data grow.

  • Infrastructure as Code, Automation & CI/CD: Architect and maintain end-to-end CI/CD pipelines and code-driven infrastructure, automating provisioning and reducing manual operational work to enable rapid, safe, and repeatable delivery.

  • Hybrid & Cloud Platform Engineering: Serve as technical lead for the full lifecycle of on-prem and cloud-based resources — compute, storage, backup, and virtualization — and design secure, cost-effective cloud architectures, including migration of on-premises workloads to the cloud.

  • FinOps & Cost Optimization: Drive FinOps best practices by monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing cloud spend, including cost allocation and reporting.

  • Advanced Troubleshooting & Incident Response: Serve as the final escalation point for high-impact technical challenges, providing Tier 3 support and leading incident response to minimize downtime across on-prem and cloud systems.

  • Security & Compliance: Maintain a strong security baseline across platform and cloud services and ensure compliance with standards such as SOC 2 and PCI-DSS.

  • Mentorship, Collaboration & Documentation: Guide and mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and promote SRE/DevOps best practices; partner with development, architecture, and security teams, and maintain comprehensive documentation and standards.

Key Skills & Qualifications

1. Compute & Storage Skills

  • 10+ years of progressive IT infrastructure engineering experience, with a proven track record in global enterprise environments.

  • Deep, hands-on expertise across Operating Systems (Windows and Linux), enterprise storage, backup (Veeam or similar), and virtualization/hyper-converged systems (Nutanix), including physical infrastructure in on-prem or hybrid environments.

  • Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, DNS, VPN, SMTP) and core security practices (SSL/TLS, SSH, encryption, LDAP).

  • Experience with configuration management (Chef, Ansible, Puppet) and orchestration platforms (CloudBolt, Rundeck).

  • Automation and scripting experience (e.g., Python, Shell, PowerShell) to reduce manual work and improve operational efficiency.

  • Relevant industry certifications (Microsoft, Red Hat, Nutanix, VMware, backup/storage, Cisco, or security-related) are a plus.

2. Cloud Skills

  • Deep, hands-on expertise with at least one major cloud platform (AWS or GCP) — including compute, storage, networking, database, and security services; multi-cloud or hybrid cloud experience preferred.

  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager) and cloud networking concepts (VPCs, subnets, routing, load balancing, DNS, Direct Connect, hybrid connectivity).

  • Experience leading migration of on-premises applications and data to the cloud.

  • Demonstrated experience driving FinOps strategies to optimize cloud spend without compromising performance or security.

  • In-depth knowledge of cloud security best practices and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS).

  • Professional-level cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect) are a plus.

Additional Qualifications

  • Exceptional analytical and strategic problem-solving skills, with the ability to correlate and troubleshoot complex issues across diverse platforms.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and mentoring skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences, and a solid understanding of the project management lifecycle.

Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
