Sr. Engineer, Mobile Applications (Android)

Summary

Senior Android engineer building and owning features for NETGEAR’s mobile apps that manage home networks, using Kotlin/Java, modern tooling, and AI-augmented workflows.

Role Overview

NETGEAR creates innovative networking solutions that connect people and improve how we live and work. We develop products that are reliable, secure, and user-focused. Our diverse team values direct communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement, and we foster a workplace where creativity and technical excellence thrive. If you are passionate about technology and want to contribute to meaningful products that people rely on daily, NETGEAR offers the opportunity to make a real impact.

As a Senior Engineer on NETGEAR's mobile applications team, you will be an experienced, hands-on Android engineer who takes ownership of complex features and initiatives across our mobile experience. This role has significant impact - you'll be shaping the app experience for millions of people who rely on it to manage their home networks every day.

Working with a high degree of independence, you will drive technical initiatives that span mobile, embedded, and cloud systems, influence the design of complex parts of the codebase, and help raise the engineering bar across the team. AI-augmented development - using AI tools for code generation, test generation, and code review is a core part of how you work, not an occasional aid.

We are looking for someone with deep platform expertise, a customer-centric mindset, a strong sense of ownership, and high-quality standards. You bring genuine curiosity and the adaptability to thrive in a fast-changing environment, approaching problems with a bias for action and staying positive as products and priorities evolve.

You will also mentor other engineers and help shape a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop features across NETGEAR's Android applications, with a focus on scalability, performance, and usability

  • Take ownership of initiatives end to end, coordinating with cloud and embedded counterparts to deliver cohesive product experiences

  • Build and maintain test coverage (unit, integration, UI) alongside manual QA testing on features and releases

  • Apply sound engineering judgement to solve complex problems, proposing improved methods and approaches

  • Contribute to architectural discussions and help shape the technical direction of the app

  • Champion best practices including code reviews, and modern CI/CD and DevOps workflows (e.g. GitHub Actions)

  • Mentor and support other engineers, acting as an informal technical lead and facilitator

  • Actively seek out new tools, ideas, and ways of working - including effective use of AI development tools throughout the SDLC

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Android development experience using Kotlin and Java, including leadership on cross-functional projects

  • Strong knowledge of Android OS architecture, platform services, and system-level integrations

  • Solid design and architectural skills, with experience building scalable, testable, reusable applications

  • Proficiency in Material Design and building modern, responsive, user-centric UIs

  • Experience working across mobile, embedded, and cloud systems to deliver cohesive product experiences

  • Experience developing clients for APIs and microservices

  • Strong proficiency with AI-augmented development workflows - tool-agnostic, applied across code generation, test generation, and code review as a core part of the SDLC

  • Working experience with DevOps pipelines and tools (e.g. GitHub, GitHub Actions, Fastlane) and secure software delivery

  • Comfortable performing manual QA alongside development work

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in complex technical environments

  • Strong communicator, able to articulate technical direction to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent hands-on experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Node.js, JavaScript, Python, and/or cross-platform frameworks (React Native, Flutter), including the ability to build and maintain Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) layers

  • Experience with IoT systems or integrations involving Bluetooth, WiFi, or networking hardware

  • Experience with subscription-based product models (in-app purchases, billing, and entitlement flows)

  • Experience across both iOS and Android is a strong plus
