This is a senior backend engineering opportunity focused on building, modernizing, and supporting critical enterprise applications.
You will work across Java, Spring Boot, microservices, APIs, cloud technologies, and integration platforms in production environments.
The role combines hands-on development with production support, troubleshooting, automation, and continuous improvement.
You will help design AWS-ready APIs and integrate modern services with existing legacy systems and enterprise platforms.
A key part of the position is ensuring application reliability by diagnosing critical issues and developing practical solutions that protect business continuity.
You will also contribute to CI/CD automation across on-premises infrastructure, containers, and AWS environments.
The role offers significant technical ownership while working closely with business analysts, project leads, and IT teams.
Accountabilities
- Analyze critical production issues by reviewing application logs, system metrics, operational data, and performance trends to identify root causes and appropriate resolutions.
- Develop and implement practical solutions for critical failures, evaluating alternative workflows and approaches to maintain business continuity.
- Monitor, maintain, upgrade, and improve applications running across different platforms and production environments.
- Design, develop, and deploy new applications, services, and AWS-ready APIs using Java/J2EE, Spring, and Spring Boot.
- Build and enhance microservices and API-based solutions while ensuring smooth integration with legacy applications and existing enterprise systems.
- Develop and maintain ESB, CAF, and BPM projects using the webMethods product suite where required.
- Diagnose, debug, troubleshoot, and resolve application and API defects and production issues.
- Automate repetitive and manual production activities to improve operational efficiency and reliability.
- Develop scripts using Python and Shell to monitor systems, automate processes, and implement effective alerting mechanisms.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting deployments across on-premises servers, Docker environments, and AWS.
- Support the deployment of new computer systems, frameworks, applications, and services into production.
- Provide expert technical guidance on critical application issues and contribute to next-level troubleshooting and resolution.
- Communicate technical findings, solutions, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, Project Leads, and IT teams to provide technical expertise and recommendations throughout projects and production initiatives.
- Strong professional experience with Java, J2EE, Spring, and Spring Boot, with a focus on backend application development.
- Solid understanding and hands-on experience with REST APIs and microservices architecture.
- Experience with CI/CD concepts, including Jenkins, Docker, and containerization technologies.
- Practical knowledge of Linux and Windows server environments, including the ability to work confidently with Linux/Unix command-line tools.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python and Shell scripting for automation, monitoring, and operational tasks.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, particularly in production-critical environments.
- Ability to work across modern cloud services and legacy systems and understand the integration challenges between different technologies and platforms.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and recommendations clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively with business analysts, project managers, technical teams, and other stakeholders.
- Experience with webMethods ESB, CAF, or BPM is a valuable advantage.
- Knowledge of AWS, cloud computing, and API gateways is highly desirable.
- An AWS Developer or AWS Solutions Architect certification is an advantage.
- Ability to work full-time in Australia with appropriate work authorization.
- Salary of $115,000–$140,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
