Senior Software Engineer (Java)

Job Purpose

As a Senior Software Engineer at CI&T, you will act as a technical leader and mentor within a cross-functional team. You will take ownership of complex software solutions, lead the maintenance of mission-critical legacy applications, and bridge the gap between technical execution and business objectives

Key Accountabilities

Core Responsibilities

Top-notch engineering implementation and delivery: Lead the design, implementation, troubleshooting, testing and deployment of complex features and defects within large codebases (thousands of lines of code).
Legacy System Evolution: Maintain, refactor, and modernize existing Java/J2EE code while proactively managing technical debt.
Production Support & Reliability: Lead incident response, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and implement sustainable solutions for systems requiring 99%+ uptime.
Quality & Standards: Establish coding standards, conduct thorough code reviews, and drive comprehensive testing and monitoring strategies.
Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate technical concepts and incident status updates effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Knowledge and Experience

Technical Requirements

Java Expertise: 5-7+ years of experience in Java enterprise development (Java 8+), including J2EE technologies like Servlets and JSP.
Database Mastery: Deep expertise in MySQL, including complex query optimization, stored procedures, and managing large-scale databases (100M+ records).
Web Technologies: Strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and MVC architecture patterns.
DevOps & Infrastructure: Hands‑on experience with CI/CD practices, Git, Maven, and managing production environments.
Cloud & Integration: Solid understanding of AWS services (S3, RDS, ECS), web services (SOAP/REST), and data integration patterns (ETL, SFTP)

Preferred Qualifications

AI/Agentic Mindset: Experience or strong interest in Agentic AI approaches to enhance development workflows and system automation.
Containerization: Experience with Docker and modern container orchestration.
Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with Windows Server, PowerShell scripting, and legacy frameworks like Caucho Resin or Apache Axis.
Domain Experience: Background in the automotive industry or Dealer Management Systems (DMS).
