At Expedia Group, we help travelers explore the world, one journey at a time. As a global travel company powered by passionate people, trusted partnerships, and leading technology, we connect travelers, partners, and advertisers through our consumer brands, B2B network, and travel advertising business.
Here, you'll do meaningful work that helps millions of people discover, book, and experience travel with more ease, confidence, and joy. Our five Behaviors-Traveler First, Think Big, Operate with Excellence, Ownership Mindset, and Succeed Together-help foster a supportive environment where people can grow their careers and have the flexibility, benefits, and support to do their best work. Join us and build for travelers everywhere.
At Expedia Group, our mission is to power global travel for everyone, everywhere. Expedia Group’s Experience Design organization (XD) is our global, cross-disciplinary team that unites user experience design, content design, and research to enable innovative, relevant, and cohesive experiences that serve the needs of all our travelers, partners, and agents.
For this role, we’re looking for a Senior Manager, Content Design who is both a player-coach and a strategic partner. You’ll hold a high craft bar, do the work alongside your team, and help shape what we build with product, design, and engineering leaders. You’ll lead content leads and Content Designers who craft useful, usable, and delightful customer experiences, including AI-powered ones. We work on a global scale, across brands, devices and platforms, in a diverse and collaborative environment.
What you’ll do
As Senior Manager, Content Design, you’ll set the craft bar and develop a team of content leads and Content Designers whose work spans several teams or programs. You’ll deliver work yourself where it matters most and give feedback that raises quality.
Chief among your responsibilities:
- Stay hands-on with the highest-stakes and most ambiguous problems, including prototypes built with AI, so you show rather than tell others the value our practice delivers.
- Give specific, candid feedback on your team’s work and run critique across teams, so “good” means the same thing everywhere. Coach your team to use feedback effectively and to uplift one another.
- Up-skill your team. Build development plans tied to craft gaps, and teach skills like trace reading, rubric writing, prompt and system-instruction design, and responsible AI use.
- Be a strategic partner to product, design, and engineering leaders. Take part in planning, set content direction, prioritize against business and customer outcomes, and reshape or decline work that doesn’t serve the strategy.
- Own content standards for AI-powered experiences across your programs, including metric definitions, rubrics, severity ladders, and golden examples. Turn content guidance into testable eval hypotheses before changes ship.
- Govern content quality in AI development. Serve as required reviewer on changes to content-related prompts and judges, add content criteria to release sign-off, and partner with ML, data science, and engineering on eval design and human review.
- Craft and oversee clear, consistent, customer-centered content strategies, patterns, and frameworks across teams, in both static and AI-generated experiences. Champion the growth of our content patterns and design system.
- Help your team apply and adapt human-centered design practices to large, sophisticated product areas, using qualitative and quantitative insights to link content quality to customer outcomes.
- Build an inclusive, innovative, candid, and trusting team. Attract and select diverse, high-caliber talent, plan capacity across designers, reviewers, and data partners, and make decision rights clear.
- Share domain and industry knowledge across teams, and contribute scalable ways of working, such as playbooks, back to the Content Design practice.
Who you are
We’re not expecting you to be a specialist in everything listed here, but we do ask that you demonstrate expertise in whichever methods you apply. We’re also looking for people who will contribute frameworks to our growing team and our design system, so we’re excited to see how you scale your thinking.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, User Experience, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of related professional experience, including formally managing content designers or UX content strategists on a UX or product design team, with a track record of up-leveling teams, minimizing attrition, and building trust.
- Advanced skills as both a practitioner and a coach in techniques such as content mapping and modeling, conversational design, information architecture, UX writing, content audits, and storytelling.
- Hands-on AI fluency. You prototype content strategies with AI, write prompts and system instructions, read model outputs and traces, and can design rubrics and evaluations. You don’t need to be an engineer.
- The presence to influence senior product, design, engineering, and ML leaders, and to connect vision, strategy, and action plans through storytelling and persuasion.
- Advanced understanding of human-centered design (HCD) practices, and a point of view about content’s role in the design process.
- Ability to collaborate with leaders across practice areas, particularly those with approaches and perspectives different from your own, to generate effective solutions.
- Advanced skills in facilitation, workshop design, presentation, and storytelling.
- A growth mindset, an optimistic outlook, and the ability to lead through change.
- A thoughtful, empathetic, and inclusive approach to content design that meets every user where they are.
- A passion for travel and for our mission.
- A portfolio of work that demonstrates your expertise and your craft.
