Sr. Manager, Data Engineering

Summary

The Senior Manager of Data Engineering will lead a team to design and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and data warehouse models. The role focuses on technical strategy, data governance, and cross-functional collaboration using Python, SQL, and cloud-based data platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical vision and roadmap for BI data engineering, aligning it with company strategy and analytics needs
  • Design, build, and review scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and workflow orchestration systems using Python and SQL
  • Architect and optimize data warehouse models to support advanced analytics and self-service BI
  • Establish standards for reliability, observability, testing, and performance across data systems
  • Drive improvements in data quality, lineage, and governance
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data engineers
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Analytics, Security, and Legal to align on priorities and compliance

Requirements

  • 8-10+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field
  • 3-5+ years of experience leading and managing data or software engineers
  • 5+ years of advanced SQL and Python development experience in production environments
  • Hands-on experience designing and maintaining end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Proficiency with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, AWS) and tools like Fivetran, dbt, Prefect, or Airflow
  • Strong understanding of relational modeling, warehouse design, and CI/CD practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, Prefect, and AWS
  • Experience with enterprise BI platforms and self-service analytics
  • Experience with batch and event-streaming or real-time ingestion systems
  • Prior leadership experience in a startup or high-growth environment
  • Healthcare industry experience, including familiarity with HL7, FHIR, HIPAA, and GDPR
