What you'll do here:

As the Sr. Manager, General Accounting at Cengage, you will play a meaningful role in our Finance team. This is an outstanding opportunity to lead and improve our global accounting operations, ensuring accurate, timely and reliable financial reporting and driving operational excellence. You will partner with cross-functional global operational functions, coordinating core general accounting and close processes. Your responsibilities will include:

Manage Outsourced Operations Team:

  • Serve as the relationship and performance manager for the outsourced accounting team.
  • Provide direction, priorities, and expectations to the outsourced accounting team while maintaining clear accountability for accounting outcomes.
  • Establish and monitor service-level agreements, key performance indicators, quality metrics, and results for outsourced team
  • Lead regular operational reviews with Cognizant leadership and address performance trends, capacity concerns, and service issues.
  • Raise and resolve complex or recurring issues and ensure appropriate root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

Other Responsibilities

  • Leading and improving the global close process across multiple entities
  • Reviewing journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations, with emphasis on quality and risk
  • Driving the transformation and standardization of accounting processes to support greater integration across global teams to support public-company readiness
  • Ensuring consistent, well-documented, and auditable accounting practices

Abilities you will require here:

To be successful in this role, you will need a combination of leadership skills, and a collaborative approach. Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience
  • 8–10+ years of dynamic accounting experience
  • Public company experience and strong understanding of SOX compliance preferred
  • Extensive understanding of U.S. GAAP and international accounting processes
  • Demonstrated experience with global consolidations and scalable process building
  • Prior people leadership experience with a track record of developing teams
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with cross-functional teams, including Technical Accounting, FP&A, and Revenue
  • Experience in a SaaS or digital environment strongly preferred
  • Experience with large ERP systems (e.g., SAP S/4HANA) and reporting tools is a plus

The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on work schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location. Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.

In this position, you will be eligible to participate in the company’s discretionary incentive bonus program. This position's bonus target amount, which is not guaranteed and is dependent on individual performance and overall company results among other factors, is provided below.

20% Annual: Individual Target

$117,100.00 - $152,200.00 USD
