Sr Manager, Procurement Operations - Proprietary Products
Job Summary
Senior Manager, Procurement – Proprietary Manufacturing is responsible for leading procurement strategy and execution for direct materials supporting Nutrien’s proprietary manufacturing operations, including raw materials, active ingredients, and packaging. This leader partners with Category Management, Manufacturing, Supply Planning, Research and Development, Quality, Regulatory, Finance, and Legal. This role leads site procurement teams to secure reliable supply, optimize total cost, manage risk, and align to Nutrien policies. Through strong leadership the individual will develop the procurement team, strengthen supplier performance, and deliver measurable value through disciplined sourcing, planning, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do:
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies for raw materials, active ingredients, and packaging, aligned with proprietary manufacturing, supply, quality, regulatory, and financial objectives
- Lead site buyers and procurement team members in executing strategies, purchase requirements, and supplier actions in accordance with Nutrien policies and controls
- Partner with Manufacturing and Supply Planning leadership to review forecasts, confirm material requirements, identify supply or demand gaps, and recommend adjustments to procurement plans
- Deliver sustainable cost savings, cost avoidance, working-capital improvements, and total-cost-of-ownership opportunities while protecting quality, service, safety, compliance, and continuity of supply
- Monitor commodity markets, supplier capacity, lead times, geopolitical factors, and other external conditions; translate insights into sourcing actions and risk-mitigation plans
- Lead supplier selection, competitive sourcing, negotiation, contracting, onboarding, performance management, and business reviews for assigned categories and locations
- Maintain approved suppliers, contracts, specifications, forecasts, and purchase execution within SAP S/4HANA and related procurement systems
- Develop procurement plans, budgets, forecasts, performance measures, and dashboards; communicate results, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions to business and procurement leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop team members through clear goals, performance feedback, capability building, workload prioritization, and succession planning
- Champion standardization, data quality, continuous improvement, and change initiatives that strengthen procurement discipline, collaboration with other procurement teams, and measurable business value
- Provide procurement leadership for cross-functional projects, new product introductions, formulation or packaging changes, capacity expansions, and other strategic manufacturing priorities
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree or relevant professional designations are an asset
- 10+ years of progressive experience including leadership responsibility. Deep understanding of procurement, strategic sourcing, supply chain, or materials management
- Experience in sourcing direct materials such as chemicals, active ingredients, agricultural products, packaging, or other industrial manufacturing inputs
- Proven ability to develop business strategies, negotiate complex agreements, manage supplier performance, and deliver measurable cost, working-capital, and risk-reduction results
- Strong knowledge of forecasting, material requirements planning, inventory management, source-to-contract, procure-to-pay, and supplier risk management
- Experience leading and influencing teams across multiple manufacturing locations and cross-functional organizations
- Well-developed financial and business acumen enabling cost modeling and total-cost-of-ownership analyses
- Working knowledge of SAP (S/4HANA Materials Management) and Microsoft Office suite is preferred
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, project-management, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and make sound decisions independently
