Sr. Project Manager - Construction

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Project Leadership & Scope Management

• Lead the full project lifecycle—from initiation through occupancy—for multi-phased renovation projects, medical equipment installations, infrastructure upgrades, and specialized initiatives across all Henry Ford Health locations

• Develop and manage comprehensive project scope, schedules, and budgets while maintaining strategic alignment with organizational priorities

• Monitor project performance in real-time, proactively managing scope creep and schedule risks to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

• Partner with key stakeholders and end users to define project scope, assess space requirements, and translate clinical and operational needs into actionable project plans

• Facilitate collaborative design meetings with architects, engineers, and internal teams to ensure alignment and prevent scope additions

• Build and maintain strong partnerships across Medxcel Facilities, Trimedx, IT, and care areas to create seamless project execution and positive patient experiences

• Communicate project progress, challenges, and outcomes effectively with leadership and departments to maintain transparency and engagement

Design & Planning Excellence

• Collaborate with internal or outsourced architects and engineers to develop preliminary plans and construction documents that meet project objectives

• Coordinate with interior design teams on furnishings, finishes, and equipment integration to enhance functionality and aesthetics

• Review construction documents with Medxcel Facilities, Trimedx, and IT stakeholders; incorporate feedback and ensure all revisions align with project scope

• Assess infrastructure capacity and identify necessary upgrades to support project requirements

Financial Management & Budget Development

• Develop comprehensive project budgets incorporating all costs—design, construction, equipment, and infrastructure upgrades—and present for stakeholder approval

• Track project expenditures, cost projections, and financial performance using e-Builder; provide accurate forecasting and variance analysis

• Prepare and submit funding documentation in collaboration with Finance to secure project authorization

• Perform conceptual estimating and cost analysis to support early-stage project planning

Construction Oversight & Quality Assurance

• Oversee construction progress meetings and maintain active oversight of all construction activities to ensure quality, safety, and schedule adherence

• Partner with Strategic Sourcing on architect/engineer, contractor, and construction manager selections

• Review proposed subcontractor bid lists to ensure alignment with Henry Ford Health system goals and commitment to diverse contractor opportunities

• Coordinate with equipment vendors on selection, procurement, and installation timelines

• Review and approve architect/engineer requests for additional services to maintain scope integrity

Compliance, Documentation & Project Closeout

• Ensure compliance with internal policies, Joint Commission standards, CMS Environment of Care and Life Safety requirements, LARA regulations, and Bureau of Fire Services guidelines

• Maintain comprehensive electronic records of all project documentation, ensuring accessibility and organization for future reference

• Review construction manager closeout documentation and final record drawings (PDFs and CAD files) prior to final payment; archive electronically and distribute to appropriate stakeholders

• Manage project closeout activities and ensure all deliverables meet Henry Ford Health standards

Strategic Thinking & Continuous Improvement

• Apply analytical and quantitative expertise to planning, design, and construction decisions that drive value and innovation

• Manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects while maintaining attention to detail and strategic focus

• Work across an integrated healthcare system by developing strong partnerships and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in healthcare design and construction project management.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-directed and motivated.
  • Effective collaborator; accountable for self and others.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), Bluebeam, eBuilder, and SharePoint.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the Henry Ford Health Customer Service Policy
  • Must practice the customer skills as provided through on-going training and in-services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures.
  • Travel necessary to meetings, business locations, medical centers, schools, community partner sites, and/or health fairs. This may include working outdoors where temperatures are not controlled.
